Killzone 2 finally gets a release date photo

What are you doing on February 27, 2009? Buying Killzone 2 for your PS3? I won't be, but I'm sure plenty will on this North American release date.

That's not to say that Killzone 2 won't be good. It sure looks good.

ShackNews points out that this game will finally drop after almost four years of hearing about it. It was officially announced last night on G4's X-Play. Maybe the devs were hoping that four years was enough time for the gaming press to forget about the whole pre-rendered vs. real-time thing from a few years back. Sorry, dudes. We did not forget.

Will you be picking this up?

I definitely will. I played the beta for a bit and it looks incredible. Seriously.

Good stuff though. I plan on buying it. I want to see a collector's edition or something.

Yes I will pick it up. I've long since forgotten about the ridiculous real time vs pre rendered argument b/c Guerilla Games looks to be delivering on the pre rendered promises. I have 3 friends in the beta (which ends soon)and they love the game in it's current state. It will only be improved from here.

There is no reason not to buy it if you are a gamer. Fanboys ftl.

Sony has yet again had another lackluster year. They've would've really pushed this big as a system seller for the Holidays. Like GOW2 marketing blitz big.. but no. Stick to the numbers and release it in fiscal 09 year. Lame...

This game looks awesome, and as soon as a PS3 with backwards compatibility comes out at a good price, I'll get it.

Does it have co-op? If so I'll buy it. Never got into the beta, but it looks really fun.

1up gave a really good review of it, minus some controller issues (i hope they fix them). Otherwise I'm all over this, I've heard nothing but good things on all fronts. Graphics are supposed to be very near the target render, and as 1up said something like one of the better looking games they've seen.

@r3yguti3rr3z

I disagree, the PS3 has seen improved sales this year, of course not for the holidays so far because of its high price point, but it did better than some expected. They released some great exclusive triple A titles this year, MGS4 and LBP. They can't cram all their exclusives in one year. Why? Business. Example...Dark Knight. Warner Brothers made money hand over fist on it. Harry Potter, was supposed to come out last month, but they bumped it until summer next year. Why? Because 2 huge money maker movies in one fiscal year doesn't make sense, when you can bump it until next year and be sure you have at least 1 sure-fire blockbuster release to enjoy on your next year revenue.

Every person I talked to that is in the beta loves the game, they all agree it looks and more importantly plays great. Day one purchase for me.

My hype is fucking building to insane levels for this...I'm a damn graphic whore and want this to live up what my wildest fantasies were for what a ps3 game would look like when I handed over my $600 $800 with the warrenty..urghh) two years ago.

In my mind this replaces the Infinity ward Future shooter and I expect it'll probably be quite enjoyable since I'm not hugely hyped up about it.

The newest videos do also look very enticing.

Lol biased post much? I forgot that trailers that never claim to be in game footage are bad on a ps3 platform but totally fine on the 360. Remember the halo 3 trailer that was pre-rendered, that never had a huge media uproar, why is that?

I'm thinking of getting this because it looks like a great game from the previews I have read. If you want to pass over it cause your biased then so be it, your loss :)!

@funran: They are not fixing those "controller issues" because they are not really issues. 1up seems to be the only ones complaining about it, just because it's not like what they are used to.

That's because ti actually looked very similar to the in game graphics. The PS3 pre render for Killzone 2 however, claimed to look like in game graphics - but didn't.

That, my friend, is the difference.

(I would like to say, however, that regardles Killzone 2 still looks extremely pretty. *swoons*

While I have heard that the game is an acquired taste and may not be for everyone, I am extremely excited for it. I was reading the hands on impressions at Joystiq (the PS Blog linked me there, I swear!!) and someone posted an amazing video in the comments section:

I played the first KZ. It was alright. So I was expecting KZ2 to most likely be a "Pretty Turd". However I ended up checking my email one day and there was a beta code. I plugged it into my PS3, downloaded and played.

Since being in the beta I can say that not only does the game look good, but it plays great too. Since that day KZ2 is now on my reserve list.

If you own a PS3 and enjoy FPS, KZ2 is sure to please.

It's a f-in game about war which last time i check is not about rainbows and ponies. I've been playing the beta and the game looks amazing and manages to really make you feel like your in a war zone. Now granted the environments are dark and you'll be seein alot of gray but the fact that it manages to impress DESPITE that is a very good sign. This will definately be a day one purchase for me as long as they add an option to turn off toggle for aim and turn on tuggle for crouch.

I hope no one held the game to the impossibly high standards graphically as the CG target render. It was impossible at the time and sure as hell would of never looked as well on current gen hardware.

Regardless I think it looks like a fun game for the FPS fan. Even if the game is very dark, it kind of feeds the atmosphere when you have orange glowing eyes in the distance and you know they are coming for you.

Actually, that's not an opinion. That's a suggestion.

As far as the actual article goes, I'm really looking forward to this. It looks absolutely amazing, and the people I talked to who have the beta have confirmed that awesomeness. I still need to play the first Killzone, though, and since it's so cheap now, I may have to grab it to play over Christmas.

Anybody think it's possible for a game to live up to 4 years of broken hype?

It'll probably be a fun game, no doubt. But amazing?

Aside from visual representation, I don't see anything special here.

@Link39, I could discount any and every game that has ever been made just the same as you've done here.

You are using the term amazing, which has millions of different definitions depending on the person. If the game is fun, isn't that what games are all about. It's pretty obvious you already have your mind made up, probably due to fanboys reasons.

Here's the thing....Gears, Resistance, Halo, and Killzone can all co-exist. They are all fun, different, and amazing in their own ways. If you can't afford a PS3, just say it, no need for the sour grapes.
