Killzone 2 devs talk about unrealistic expectations photo

In the future, hype's Dictionary definition could be replaced with a box shot of Killzone 2, and I'm pretty sure we'd all get the idea. There is no denying that the pressure is on for Guerrilla and its big PS3 exclusive, which launches at the end of the week. PS3 fans are expecting it to cure the sick, raise the dead and lead them to the promised land. They also expect reviewers to give it a 9/10 or lose their jobs.

"It's a bit of a blessing and a curse at the same time," says Guerrilla's Steven Ter Heide on the game's hype. "What can I say about it? It's good to be such an anticipated title. Certainly there's a lot of enthusiasm out there. But it can be difficult at the same time, because you have to ignore it at times and not get too involved, and just get on with making the game we want to make and that hopefully will live up to everybody's expectations — no matter how unrealistic those expectations are."

To be fair though, if you start showing CGI footage and claiming that it's in-game, you kind of set yourself up for huge expectations. Just saying, guys!

Killzone 2 goes on sale this Friday, and we'll have our review up on or around that day. Whether this game is the savior of men or not remains to be seen, but there seems to be no question that this will be the PS3's biggest title yet.

I've got it pre-ordered. The demo was good, but nothing special. I'm hoping for the best from the full game.

Agree about the CGI thing, but even if its not exactly that, from what I've seen they came damn close. But I agree with him its a mixed blessing. Its good people are interested in it, but at the same time expectations for it are so high that if it doesn't give gamers head we won't like it.

If Destructoid doesn't give Killzone 2 an 53/10 then I am pretty sure they have lost all (non-existent) credibility and furthermore, I will go back to reading Kotaku.

Outside of the whole graphical thing I have to say I don't expect a whole lot from any console FPS, PC snob that I am. All that snobby stuff said, I've got Resistance 2, and by the demo I hope that the slightly slower gameplay pacing in Killzone 2 will lead to me sucking less in multiplayer.

This is going to be one LOOOOOOONG week waiting for this game....I'm taking off work Friday. I've been amped for some games before....but never as amped as this. I consider this my Call of Duty killer. I've been playing that game for so long, only in my dreams has there been a better shooter...and I think Friday my dreams come true.

I'm picking this game up on Friday can't wait. From all the reviews I've read this game will be worth the wait. Its been getting 9's across the board so I'm fairly confident this will be a critical and economic success.

About the CGI thing, from what I understand, Guerrilla had nothing to do with it, Sony showed up with that trailer at E3 made by a company named "Full Motion Video" and that was the first time Guerrilla saw KZ2 too. I would say they perfectly nailed the graphics shown on that but they couldn't possibly made the game look as cinematic as the trailer.

I expect a video game to be an orgasm. And cost twenty dollars.

I really liked the demo, but I'd be lying if I said I am really, really, hyped for this game due to the single player campagin. Heck, seeing as I am a shooter whore, I was in awe of the single player campagin in COD4.

Frankly, I don't expect it to beat the awesomeness of COD4's single player, but I do expect to be the very game that finally unsurps the mighty COD4 off of my most played list.

That's all my expectations are of this game, great, fantastic, even phenomenal multiplayer, and from what I have heard and seen so far, that will probably delivered.

To me, this is my COD-killer(in online terms), and about time as well :)

It IS going to be a long wait till friday, but I have this on preorder, and first thing in the morning, I'll pick this up.

First game I've preordered. I just really want to be there while multiplayer is still big. I hate buying a game with multiplayer capabilities and not being able to find a match (Wipeout HD). Can't say the same for COD4 though theres still plenty of matches there.
