Killzone 2 cheaters could lose PSN IDs photo

Killzone 2 is an excellent multiplayer game, but that hasn't stopped it falling foul of a few bugs and, by extension, dirty glitch exploiters. It would seem that, while Guerrilla has been letting a number of infractions slide, the studio is reaching the end of its tether and offenders may now run the risk of a PSN ban.

The news comes via Twitter, that social networking site that most of you hate hearing about. The official Killzone Twitter made the stark warning, so any of you currently falling through floors or finding other nefarious ways to cheat death and claim an easy victory should be prepared.

"Glitchers risk losing their PSN ID altogether," warns Guerrilla. "We've been quite lenient so far but that's going to change."

Looks like fighting words to me. I guess I'll stop doing that thing where I put a forklift truck in front the elevator so the Helghast can't get out.

Guyver: The only KZ2 glitches I've heard about so far involves people glitching through floors to avoid C4 and doing something with the zoom function on the Sniper rifle.

+1 for the L4D humor.
Although I've got to say that it's fucking rediculous that they are banning rather than patching. I mean, what if someone gets reported for a genuine mistake glitch? Do they lose their PSN ID because of Guerilla's incompetence?

5 Bucks says even thought they lose their PSN IDs, Sony will still count them when they release PSN user stats.

Only seen 1 cheater when I first started playing. I unloaded my whole clip (assault rifle) on this dude at close-ish range while two or three other teamates were shooting him while he remained unharmed, he then started pistol whipping us to death! I submited a grief report (which was suprisingly easy and user friendly) and he was kicked from the game shortly. Kinda funny^^

@Jon2309: They'll have to keep track of repeated (i.e. multiple and often) offenders. To start banning because of one infraction would cause a PR fiasco.

It would be nice if Epic and MS had done this with Gears glitchers in both the first and second game. I hope Guerilla and Sony follow through with this. I can't stand getting into a random match and being on a team full of assholes who would rather get stuck in walls and leave maps then shoot motherfuckers in the face.

Such assholes.

But how do you tell exploiting from metagaming? Is dolphin diving an exploit or a legit tactic? Is knowing the limitation of a game engine or rules an exploit? Wouldn't it be easier for the developers to say what exploits are legal and not legal? Cause I don't think the devs know what exploits exist and are just giving blanket threats.

Was that a Left 4 Dead reference, or do both games actually have a similar glitch? I haven't played Killzone yet.

I always feel like a jackass when these exploit stories roll around cause I never utilize or even know about any of them.

I have a doubt about these "glitches", previously the Auto Aim shotgun was considered a glitch even though they CLEARLY added this feature then later removed it. Then on the fix called it a glitch. So this leads me to believe other "features" are now being considered glitches instead. How the hell would anyone know?

Fighting with words indeed. Sure, cheaters suck but when they are doing it within the confines of the game they are doing nothing wrong. On the contrary, everyone should be doing it. I'm sure Guerrilla really ment to be polite and ask everyone to play fairly.

Maybe they should just fix their buggy, glitched game.

You should only get your account banned if you're actively hacking or breaking the game, (see: left4dead). If they're exploiting a glitch they should be kicked out of the game for sure, or maybe killzone2, but technically they are using resources found in the level...

I'm not defending cheaters, just saying they should prolly use the reports to fix bugs before they start banning people.

Also i haven't actually seen anybody cheating in killzone... left4dead had some epic hackkzz though

Hum.. if you can do it using only your controller and unmodified software/hardware it's not cheating, is abusing glitches. glitches should be patched, there's no discussion there. It's like banning someone from street fighter for abusing hadoukens.

Not that I think that's a cool thing to do, but the fault lies in the buggy software.
