Killer Instinct on the 360? photo

You guys remember Killer Instinct, right? You know, Cinder? Glacius? Well it looks like Rare might be coming out of the dark with an Xbox 360 edition. At least that's what the UK gaming magazine Games TM is saying. If this happens to be true, this could be a great move for Rare.

Rare hasn't exactly had the best lineup so far, starting the 360 out with Kameo: Elements of Power and Perfect Dark Zero. They have been getting better though with the newly released Viva Pinata and a new Killer Instinct game can only help them that much more. The premise of a next-gen Killer Instinct is very tempting and the "wow factor" alone would sell a great deal of copies. This is going to stay in the rumor stage until we hear something concrete from Rare. Also, Orchid is hot.

I've always sucked at fighter games but killer instinct came bundled with my snes and i loved it. What was that Werewolfs name? Lycan? I remember I liked Glacius too, how can you not like a mix between sub-zero and the T1000?

Gregor at 12/28/2006 21:33
Yeah, I think it was Lycan. My favorite was glacius though because he could go liquid and uppercut you.

Gregor's posting! <3

And yeah, Killer Instinct was pretty fun. Of course, it has some learning disabilities when compared to other 2D and 3D fighers; not the most technical of the bunch. But fun! And stupid! And fun!

Yep, I'm back in action. Expect a lot more.

Killer Instinct was great because you could do kick ass moves without TOO much effort.

Heh, yeah. Wasn't it something like FP->LK or something while jumping that got you an automatic 4-5 hit combo?

I own both KI and KI2 arcade boards and still play them. Ive been praying to see them come to xbox 360 with an online vs. mode ever since they released MK3. Please RARE don't mess it up.

Killer Instinct was pretty damn fun. I was reading some article somewhere, though, highlighting the year's most innovative and least innovative games, and DOA4 was lumped under the Least category with the writer saying that the fighter genre is dead... and while I don't think it's necessarily dead, after a bit of thinking, I would have to say that it may very well be the genre with the least innovation over the last few years. I'd like to see something more than extra buttons to smack a fool with or gimmicks that amount to nothing; I'd like something that turns the fighting genre on its head.

I'll be damned if I can come up with anything though. :-/

Anyways, I was excited to learn that Killer Instinct is possibly in the works, and I can't wait to get an official statement from them to prove the rumor true

I really dont understand why people like this piece of crap. Any fighting game that you do some moves, leave the controller alone and it keeps pummeling you is a piece of horsecrap.

The horrible graphics where characters look like they were sprayed with Armor All. Forgettable, bland characters (Jago, Orchid, TJ Combo?! Bah!). Sissy synth pop and gay club dance for music. Gimmicky fatalities copied from Mortal Kombat...

Ive been a fan of fighting games for over 10 years and still everytime I hear about this game I vomit a little in my mouth. We dont need this.

I loved KI on the SNES. In my heart of hearts, I hope Nintendo makes up a bit with Rare and gets them to port it over to the VC. I think I'd cream my shorts.

Nobody could beat my Orchid. My Orchid game was so solid it wasn't funny. I was an impenetrable fortress of awesome combos and breakers.

Fulgore!!!! So great!

I remember going to the arcade the weekend after I rented and played someone and he lost then quickly disposed of the computer, finished with the machine gun head and my brother said he whipped around when he heard the noise in shock....oo great times!

HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK

My favorite fighting games of all time is coming back, now I actually need to get a 360. That is, assuming Rare doesn't pull a Perfect Dark and shit on another great legacy with a second-rate game.

I agree Mursinary..PDZ was an ok game, but it seemed awesome in the beginning since there really wasn't much to choose from.

If this turns out to be true, then we're going to finally hear the phrase "Ultraaaa....Ultraaaa...Ultraaaa..Ultraaaa". There really is no better sound...well, except for the words "I just came back from the doctor and I'm not pregnant."

didn't you hear? Killer Instinct for the 360 is going to be reimagined in to a 3rd person RPG(shooter)! Play as Jago, B. Orchid, or T.J. Combo and fight thru 10 levels against hordes of Cinders, Glacius', Riptors, Spinals, and Saberwulfs. Includes boss fights with Fulgore, Chief Thunder, Eyedol, and Gargos!

How you like them apples?

I remember the first time I saw KI in the arcades. I pooped. I remember that you could take down anyone who didn't know how to play by getting cinder and just spamming forward and punch. They nerfed this in the SNES version. Man they've sat on KI way to long. UUULLLLTTTRRRRAAAA CCCCOOOOMMMMBBBBOOOOOOOOO!

Oh man that guy is hilarious. That is a true Sony fanboy. I love how he thinks that Rare(owned by Microsoft whom he hates so much as evident by his other posts) will make the game available on a Wii or PS3.

There'd be no point in releasing Killer Instinct for PS3 and then the Wii. It's like taking Oblivion and putting it on the Wii, it just won't happen.
