Killer Instinct Classic won't be sold separately

Restricted to new game's Ultra edition

Currently, the only way to get Killer Instinct Classic is by purchasing either the Ultra ($39.99) or Ultimate ($59.99) edition of Double Helix's new Killer Instinct. I say "currently" because these things have a habit of getting out there as standalone releases but, for now, producer Torin Retting has confirmed to Siliconera that Classic is tied to the aforementioned editions.

"It includes the original arcade ROM (v1.4) with all of the classic, fan-favorite glitches, and the revised version (v1.5D) that came out later to fix things like Cinder’s infinite combo. In addition to this we’ve added cool extras like a training mode, frame effects like scan lines to emulate a CRT and galleries of the original sprites."

The other bummer here is that Classic doesn't support online multiplayer, at least not yet. Retting says the team has been "talking about it a lot." Go ahead and add netcode, then put the game out on Xbox Live for a reasonable price -- that'd be just lovely, Double Helix.

Iron Galaxy Studios has done a great job with Killer Instinct's Season 2 characters. All of them are incredibly well animated and fit the game perfectly. Cinder is looking pretty hot right now (ha), after his death in the or...
Hisako is a spooky ghost lady ripped straight from Japanese horror films with long black hair and creepy crawling intact, certainly a cool addition to Killer Instinct for Season 2. Also revealed in the trailer is t...
Double Helix and Iron Galaxy have done a great job at turning Killer Instinct into a serviceable fighting game over the past year and a half. The newest character to join the fray is Hisako, which basically looks like t...
From a cosmetic perspective, I'm digging this new round of Killer Instinct characters. While the trailer is focused on next week's Aganos, a golem who looks more like a boss than a combatant, there's also a tease at the end for a character everyone seems to be calling "Ghost Girl." I hope that name sticks. Videogames can and should be weird like that sometimes.
[Update: Now we have a picture of the leg -- really cool shadow effects. Remember this sort of old school style teasing in magazines?] A new character is coming to Killer Instinct, and developer Iron Galaxy is hinti...
Although we had confirmation of Riptor's existence in Killer Instinct already, now we have a better look at her moveset and backstory. Evidently she was created as a result of a competing project with Fulgore and Cinder...
Another classic combatant returns. Killer Instinct will get Riptor this week, as announced by the developers. Early access members are set to get her today, while the rest of the public will get her on December 17. The n...
Kan-Ra seems about as menacing as an Saturday morning cartoon villain, but that's why I like him. The mummy sorcerer is next in line for Season 2 of Killer Instinct. He'll be available first for Ultra Edition ($39.99) player...
Although it had a few issues in terms of content, Killer Instinct on Xbox One was actually a good game at launch. Since then, I've taken a look at both Spinal and Fulgore, and found them to be a great addition to the alr...
