Kill Yourself: Calling All Cars servers to shut down photo

That's it. I will end my life now. I can't play Calling All Cars online anymore. What's the point of living?

I'm kidding. I played the demo like three times. It was fun, but I never played it again. It didn't have enough numbers coming out of heads for me. Those that are still playing and enjoying David Jaffe's little PSN game will be sad to hear that the servers are going to shut down early next year. Boot up the game and you'll get the following message:

On January 14, 2010 the servers for Calling All Cars will be taken off-line. We would like to thank ya for yar support.

What next? Are they going to tell me I can't play Haze online? FIFA 2004?

I guess I'll stay among the living for a bit more and kill myself on New Year's Day, then.

Sad to say that I bought this game when it went on sale for $5 and I have yet to play it once.

At least my little brother got a few sessions out of it.

Daaamn, I feel sorry for anyone that bought themselves a PS3 when the price dropped and picked this up. I almost did, but kinda forgot.

This is one of the reasons why people are happy to pay for Xbox Live, even though PSN matches it in many ways after three years of updates: I've never seen a story about servers going down for Xbox 360 games. Even if the game was as horrible as Yaris or is some outdated version of a sports game, it seems like the servers always stay up. And yet, Sony's service allows them and other publishers to pull down their games. I still remember the outrage several of my friends had when, similarly, the servers for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence went down after not even a full year, to make way for the online in MGS: Portable Ops.

I actually just played this for the first time in a year. Still not that great.

This was on my PS3 when I bought it (used) thanks to someones old account being on it.

I played it once and it wasn't even worth it that one time. Yikes.

I loved this game. I still do love Calling All Cars. No one is ever online, so I understand it but it makes me sad how little I actually got to play it. I guess I'll always have split screen.

It's a good game. I don't really mind because I play it more as a party game when I have friends over then for random online play.

The least a developer can do in a case like this is adding support for custom dedicated servers, rather than essentially revoking all purchases of the game.

Would be a shame to see this game die completely, it's a great multiplayer game Online mode has been very quiet, but not completely dead recently.

I'm hoping the shutdown could be cancelled if there's enough action on the servers. So I created a new Calling All Cars forum and I've been inviting players there. Those of you who like the game, feel free to register and lets get some games going!

The forum is at http://www.arctic-charge.com/cac/

Yeahhhhhhhh... I can't see more than just a small, small group of people caring about this.

I didn't even know anybody played this online anymore. I always played it split screen anyways.

It was a fun game, but not quite fun enough to bring me back. Plus the controls are kind of frustrating. At least it's got splitscreen so it's not entirely worthless once the servers are gone.

It's a good thing the best way to play this game is split screen. Also, lag will piss you off because of how fast the criminal can turn over.

This is why I will not buy an online only game, ever. I refused to buy Socom for the sole reason that if you didn't have an internet connection (or they shut it down) you would have a coaster for your cup and I'll be damned if I bout a $60 coaster.

I have no idea if this is an online only game but, you get my drift!

This isnt an online only game and nobody plays it online anymore. Its run it course so who cares.

SOCOM will be the same deal. They arent shutting the servers down anytime soon seeing as plenty of people still play it. If you feel that 6+ years down the road when people have moved on that your money wasnt worth it when you probably wouldnt be playing anymore either, well then maybe its time to reevaluate your money spending. The $40 I spent on a game like SOCOM was well worth it and I have gotten my moneys worth in playtime already and there is still years left in it.

This is kinda lame, even if there's not many players. Kinda dumb, too, you'd think there's a lot of potential customers coming this autumn with their shiny new Slims that will now skip the game.

This game was a massive failure anyway, not many people really cared about it. It wasn't very good, and it didn't sell very well. They may as well take the game off the PSN altogether. Meanwhile, we have about $20,000 worth of PAIN DLC to look forward to clear through 2012.
