Kids steal Wii, mom pawns Wii, everyone gets arrested photo

They say videogames pull families apart, but in the case of the ironically named Law family, a Wii certainly helped bring a mother and her kids closer together. It's been alleged that three kids aged between 13 and 18 stole a Wii from a neighbor, and then pawned the item with help from the mother of one of the thieves.

16-year-old Patrick Early told police that his mother, 41-year-old Maxine Law, knowingly pawned the stolen item for the boys at a local shop. At the time of writing, it's not sure whether or not a formal charge has been made for the mother, but she was arrested and cops are now trying to ascertain whether she did it.

"You don't go selling something stolen, it's crazy," said theft victim, Jenein Frazier. Um ... isn't that kind of what you're supposed to be with something stolen?

If it's the police deem fit, Law could be charged with dealing in stolen property and contributing to the deliquincy of a minor.

Well, if you have something stolen, you could always return it to local authorities. But that'd make too much sense now, wouldn't it?

Wait... so this lady could potentially answer to the name Max Law?

I knew a kid once named "Mike Law"... we used to be skateboard buddies... I wonder if these people are related to him? Doubt it.

Their last name is humorously coincidental, not ironic.

@everybodyruns,

Actually, that IS one of the accepted definition of "irony."

More importantly, it is undoubtedly ironic that a person of the name Max Law is, in fact, not in accordance with the natural meaning of their own name.

I don't know how anyone could say that ISN'T irony. It's basically the very definition of it.

The closest form of irony that this situation resembles would be situational irony, i.e. an outcome which is very different from what is expected.

However, no one would expect that someone named "Law" would be less likely to commit a crime, so it is no more surprising or contrary to expectation that they did break the law. It is silly that they have a name that is opposed to their actions, but people's names do not affect their actions, so it is simply a coincidence.

An ironic situation would be if these people were given the name Law in the hopes that it would deter them from crime, but instead they were actually driven to commit crime because of the fact that they are named Law.

Also, I love your avatar.

I work in a pawnshop, and although I can't prove it, I'm sure we get stolen game systems all the time. This story isn't unique at all, besides the slightly humorous Law last name.

You don't pawn off something that is too hot. And apparently the Wii is hot.
