It's great to see that there are plenty of emotionally crippled dicks that are more than happy to further her research by overtly demonstrating the intolerance that exists within the gamer community. Perhaps not its defining trait, but it is still rampant enough to warrant thorough analysis. Awareness is required for prevention.

It's probably 4chan. Those guys troll CNN's comments endlessly, because CNN doesn't moderate them. Their attitude is whatever they can get away with that upsets people, they will do it.

It's not that the opinion is wrong to have or anything, it's just... why the fuck does she need $6000 (up to $43000 now) to make a video bitching about video games? And lets be honest, that's almost certainly what this is. Does anyone really think she's going to be at all fair?

Not cool, but people are assholes. Racism, sexism, and various other forms of asshollery are not new, and it always bemuses me a bit when someone encounters it for the first time and it rocks their little world. She should just ignore it and get on with her project, ignorant people are not worth paying attention to.

I am more concerned that I was not shocked in the least by this. Unfortunately, it's pretty par for the course. It all starts out as fun and games trolling and then then some knob gobbler has to kick it up a notch and bust out the death and rape threats. It's the circle of the Internet.

I've seen several of here videos and she is quite the stereotype bat shit insane feminist. But that doesn't validate any of this harassment. You have to wonder how void your life must be to threaten people over inane things as some video series she wants to make.

I'm against modern feminism because of bullshit like this, and probably because of the fact that no one is doing anything to stop it. Feminism also has reached most of its goals, so this isn't about woman's rights anymore, it's about turning america into a matriarchy while hiding behind a just movement like the feminist movement. Lord of Thunder: dude, women go to jail all the time, most especially for murdering their own children. Trust me, I've read the cases. That case is a lot more complex than you are giving it credit for. Juries are a strange and unpredictable beast.

People always like to say that gamers are an accepting bunch, but when someone disagrees, they are threatened with physical and sexual harm, which just demonstrates community hypocrisy and intolerance - not for everyone, but enough that it makes it a problem.

Jim: I'm pretty sure I remember hearing there was evidence, if not then I must apologize. I still do feel that in a society in which women and men are less discriminated than ever before in the history of mankind, that feminism should lower its scale.
Gender and sex Issues affect us all, our children and our future. Its a topic worth discussing and clearly there is a demand for it. 43k! When an industry is run by over 90% of one sex over the other that causes problems. I work in one of the few fields dominated by women and there are issues there too. It isnt about blame, its about understanding. If you do not want to watch stuff like this, suit yourself but you sound like an asshole when you make assumptions about a project you will never watch. I don't think you understand what 4chan is, Nick. Those people don't count as gamers. They barely qualify as human. Stop lumping them in with us.
Some people just can’t handle the idea of games being legitimately criticised, to be fair we do have to defend ourselves against a lot of inane shit, but gaming still has plenty of glaring issues, just like every other medium we strive to be seen as equals to.
We’re so ready to jump to its defence sometimes that we don’t really take the time to look inward and explore what real concerns we should address. But then, I don’t think these harassers are really people who care about games, they’re just awful human beings who happen to play them.

Lord of thunder: Yes, there was plenty of evidence against her. Unfortunately for the State of Florida, she had one hell of a defense attorney who was able to spin it. I don't remember her crying "omg I'm a woman you can't convict me!" exactly but she did garner sympathy by presenting all that testimony about being sexually abused by her father, thus pointing the finger at him in her daughter's death. This kind of thing can create some serious reasonable doubt for a jury.
Besides, the very foundation of our legal system is that juries need to be sure, beyond a reasonable doubt, of guilt. The state failed to prove it satisfactorily and she walked.

osifracrat: I agree that women should fight for their right to be equal, I just think that feminist like the person who runs the feminist frequency youtube channel, take feminism to the extreme and it become more of a pro-misandry (I used the word "matriarchy" instead of misandry in an earlier post forgive me for that) than actual pro-feminism. It really depends on the actual feminist, on what she would believes in. the reason I think we should lower the scale of feminism is because now woman are more accepted than ever before, thus the feminism movement should focus on areas that should be focused on rather than ones that are already for the most part fixed.

I think it was pretty clear that she did SOMETHING wrong there since they found the kid in the woods, drowned. She didn't necessarily drown the kid though. She very well could have discovered the kid drowned and attempted to hide the body in a panic.
Now, that's still a really bad thing to do obviously and I think they passed a law criminalizing it afterward if I recall my evening news correctly, but it's not the same thing as murder, which is what she was on trial for. The jury was right to acquit her.

I'm a friendly person in the games I play, but as a guy a hear my fare share of "shit talk". What I find sad about this is the money she is asking for and how much she is getting. All these mentions of 4chan as the culprits behind this mess seem to ignore the fact that there are too many situations similar to this that appear to exclusively concern video games. The relationship between the internet and video games makes matters such as this all the more important, as it indicates that any time the subject of women and gaming is raised, it will ALWAYS be met WITHOUT ANY DOUBT that people are going to claim that sexism and gaming go hand in hand, and any change to that should be met with disgusting behavior.
Also, using 4chan as a pantomime villain seems to be a great way of ignoring the issue of sexism in gaming.

We shouldn't bring things like sex or race into a murder trial, just because casey was sexually abused by her father, does not give her the right to kill her own children.
