$30 Pledge:
"Special Edition of Starlight Inception, including digital game soundtrack, all launch DLC, and all previous reward tiers."
>all launch DLC
Fuck you.
Yet, I still can't help to get excited whenever someone says Freespace or Tie-fighter. Might just go ahead and fund this.
They really would have been better off focusing on a PC only release if they wished to garner greater support from the space sim community.
"NOTE: We apologize for the confusion, but we are folding all launch DLC (two fighters and one mission) into the product, and not offering launch DLC.. We've also created a new $30 tier that includes all future DLC since Kickstarter doesn't allow us to change descriptions once we have backers. Our apologies for the inconvenience."
Since there should be a bunch of fighters in the game if it ever sees the light of day, I wouldn't worry about that aspect too much. Confidence or a lack thereof concerning resources, I can completely understand :)
A) They tried to put day one DLC in a kickstarter project in the first fucking place. *mind-blown*
and B) DLC in a kickstarter game seems really fucked up. I accept that shit from publisher games because I don't have much choice in the matter, but I certainly DO have a choice where my Kickstarter money goes, and it doesn't go to games that are going to charge me extra unless I back with an extra $15 up front.
No thanks. Anti-consumerism is one thing with AAA games, and I tolerate it for various reasons, but it's quite another tale with Kickstarter. I respect Kickstarter because it's the polar opposite of shitty publisher practices. Sure as fuck don't plan to support those same shitty practices in my Kickstarter.
It was the PS Vita port that did it for this one, and the Android Port to Leisure Suit Larry.
I've spent more on Kickstart than games this year.
This.
I just hope my PC can run it.
(Seriously though, seems like a sold game, but hot damn do I require more Colony Wars in my life.)
you get to see actual combat in the alphaversion and it looks amazing already. loads of screenshots and an amazing customisationfeature for your spaceship spend your money there instead. just check it out and let common sense speak for itself
I am in the mood of playing these kind of smart PC game, prolly because I play smart PSP/VITA games and love learning and reverse engineering new engines on other platforms (like the PC).
killas2 - we have the resources to do this. And not just finish the game, but finish with a AAA game. There are a lot of people who are excited to work on this game and they have approached us. Right now, we are in the concepting/prototyping phase, so it looks like we are a lot smaller than we are - but as soon as we work out the look of the game and flesh out a vertical slice of a level, the team will grow.
Thanks for your love of Vita,Tristrix - we love it too, but that doesn't mean the PC version is in any way dumbed down. It will be tuned for lots of peripherals like flight yokes and flight sticks, joysticks, controllers, and even a good old mouse and keyboard.
As far as the launch DLC, we had originally promised this to Sony, but we heard complaints similar to yours, and immediately killed it - I'm not trying to piss off the fans, and I was stupid to include launch DLC in the first place. If you read the first paragraph of our description, you'll see that the launch DLC is no more, and what would have been launch DLC is folded into the game. We have also made it very easy to get all future DLC, should there be any.
Ren - we are NOT Sol:Exodus. We are trying to do something fresh with the genre. We would be closer to XvT or Wing Commander, but we are both and neither.
Mrpragmatic - the Vita is not just any handheld. It is somewhere between a PS2 and PS3, has 16x the graphics capability of a PSP, and is basically an amped up Apple touch with twin joysticks mounted on either side of the screen, and a rear touchscreen for wingman commands to boot. It has twin cameras, microphone, AR, matchmaking through PSN, and a slick little 5" OLED screen. We see no compromises in going to this platform simultaneously with the PC.
Dead Weight - we are very respectful of the Air Force and it's logo - that's why we choose the shape of our logo with the spaceship starburst at the center. We are working with liaisons from both the Air Force and Navy on this game, as well as having sent the actual logo to the AF trademark and licensing office (different than the production support office) to make sure that they didn't have any problem with it. We celebrate the fact with our game that the AF will be around 100 years from tomorrow, and be part of the United Star Force, it's mission very similar to our modern day military.
Thank you for the comments, and please do take a look at our game - I'm happy to answer any further questions or comments.
Kindest Regards,
Garry
Cool. Congrats on your project getting funded! I look forward to being immersed in the world you create.
Official funder here. Also, I take back what said. I will play this on my VITA. ^.^
Despite all that, I do hope this ends up being a decent game. Several thousand people are apparently passionate about it, and they've plunked down $158K to see it made. They deserve it. However, while I quite like the genre, I was never convinced that much about the game was particularly fresh. There may be a couple minor innovations, but otherwise it sounds pretty much like any other military space sim. And this brings me to my last gripe: air force/navy involvement. There's nothing wrong with aiming for accuracy, but I really have no interest in playing a game that functions as loose propaganda for the military. It's not that I begrudge the military's existence; it's that I find this kind of gung-ho content dull and, again, not particularly fresh.
I'm all for reviving the space sim genre. I just don't think this is the game to do it. Far more interesting to me are two other Kickstarter projects: Kinetic Void and Drifter, both looking to bring something new to the table.
