Hey, this Kevin Butler ad campaign for the PS3 is really working. Get this: At last week's MI6 marketing conference, SCEA's marketing man Peter Dille said that purchasing intent for the PS3 is up 36 percent since the "It Only Does Everything" campaign started last year.
Dille also said that PS3 sales are up 184%, though that's likely due to the price drop. He does say that "we know from research that consumers are more educated as well." Was that all Kevin Butler's doing?
Wait. What the f*ck is "purchasing intent" anyway? Sounds good, I guess. Who cares. Kevin Butler is making it happen somehow. He has made me giggle. For me, that doesn't translate into "purchasing intent," but I guess it did for that 36 percent.
Dille: "We kind of gotten back to our mojo with the sense of humor that people came to know and love with early PlayStation advertising. I think it's just a more likable connection to the consumer."

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Well played.
Who would have thought?
He's also a hoot to follow on Twitter. It's like getting a little KB PS3 commercial a few times every day.
"It Only Does Everything."
Can you f**k it?
These ads are pretty good though.
Ready fight!
Makes for nice optimism in their sales meeting for those who don't actually ask "Wait, what the heck is purchase intent" and instead simply soak in "up 36%".
Basically, they had an increase in people telling them they would want one eventually compared to saying a flat out no, they have no interest.
They need less surveys and more common sense over at Sony. Sales went up because the price dropped. It's not that complex.
Come on, people are/were misinformed or confused about PS3? You're telling me that people didn't think of the Playstation as something that plays games and movies?
What were these people supposedly thinking it was? A foot warmer?
Which is actually true. It does warm the feet quite nicely.
I too follow him on twitter and he's so damn funny.

Yeah... love Kevin Butler... except for the "insignificant other" ad.
I like the new Sony ads. It almost makes me forget all the shoddy PR they've had up until this point.
But they're so cool! =[
How many ps2 games have you even played since buying a PS3 (if you do indeed own one). While i love/loved my ps2 the number of those games i've played since getting my ps3 is about 3. Oddly enough enough though i own those games i decided to buy them off PSN anyway its easier and i dont have to carry the disc around with me (my PS3 is BC). As always if you really want to play some ps2 games buy a PS2 they are dirt cheap and/or invest in the old 60 gig models with BC. Few people use the BC and it only added cost to the unit for the other 95% of people out there.
like RPT111 said there is the software emulation thing on PSN i'm not sure how comprehensive it is. Doesn't really matter since you are just a troll. If you don't a PS3 thats fine just don't bitch about things that aren't really problems.
You'd think with the appalling start to the generation that Sony would learn some humility.
i sign you that.
Sony was always a good company and had always been making superb gaming devices(i own 2 of em) but i cant stand these snot-nosed ads. Since when is repudiating other companys a good marketing strategy? So much for sony is a noble company with a sence for honour.
For me KB is a arrogant brik. But hey, maybe this is exactly the targetet audience!
Suck it Jim
