Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai seems to realize that, despite the PSP2 not being announced, we all know it's a thing. In fact, he was quite open about the console in a New York Times interview, going so far as to confirm a touchpad input system.
"Depending on the game, there are ones where you can play perfectly well with a touch panel, but you can definitely play immersive games better with physical buttons and pads," says Hirai. "I think there could be games where you're able to use both in combination.
The polygonal boss also talked about the PlayStation Phone, stopping short of confirming it but talking about it in terms that don't appear strictly hypothetical: "We don't want gamers to be asking, 'what's the difference between that and a PSP?' We have to come up with a message that users will understand. It would have to be a product that keeps the PlayStation's strengths intact."
So, looks like touch control will be a part of the PSP2. Does that interest you, or do you think having the DS is enough touch-action for you? While I've joked before about Sony ripping Nintendo off (well, half-joked), I'm interested to see what they do. Not interested enough to be excited yet. I've been burned by the PSP too many times already to get hyped at this early stage.

STFU
I recently got a DSIxl, I've always had a top end Smartphone (Android) and still the PSP cannot be beat for portable gaming in my books.
Phone games are OK when you're sat on the shitter, but I like to take my big console experiences out with me, and the phone can't cut that.
The dSIxl is very cool, but i'm really struggling to find games for it, in fact mrs SC has more games for it than i do! (She has 3, I have, well none)
To be honest, the only thing that seems to be taking over my portable gaming a little bit is my Mac book, but then when you've got Portal, Counter Strike and Left for Dead 2 to play and space to get your mouse out, it's no contest.
But in the back of a car, on a train, on a bus? - PSPgo all the way baby.
So yeah, safe to say i'm pretty fucking excite about the PSP2. touch controls or no touch controls, or even fucking both!!
Also, backwards compatibility or get the fuck out.
Waaa? You have a PSP Go?! Real men stick with the fatass 1000, son!
But yeah, I love my PSP with all my heart. Monster Hunter and Modnation on those long chicago subway rides=prefection.
Real men have both a 3000 (maybe a fatass 1000 if you don't have the budget) for when traveling abroad, and a PSP Go for when leaving the house a few hours.
Anyway, I get the feeling Sony will more or less continue along their current trajectory, which is to cram as much tech (much of it popularized by their competitors) into a box as possible, throw a big price tag on it, and expect the thing to sell itself.
also real men play their PSP 1-3K like a game gear (plugged into the wall) and have a Go for actual portability. Got a bunch of emulated games on it. almost as good as my GBA micro.
Although mine doesn't work while plugged in, loose connection or something. Turns it's self off.
Although I think my go has better battery life. Not to mention fits in my pocket.
and btw, expect a new ofw update to come out very soon, since the new hen is going to be released at midnight gmt+1
The PSP is a nice peice of technology, but games aren't exactly flowing onto they system. Aside from Taiko and Project Diva, I hardly play mine anymore, and it's been getting far more use as an MP3 player while I drive.
And if they keep adding all this shit, the battery better compensate for it. The PSP 3000 has a 4-6 hour battery life while idle or playing music, if you start using it for anything more it drops to around 3. If you start adding touch screens along with the brighter screen and whatever physical media drive they use, you're going to suck the battery dry in no time.
I'm more interested in hearing about games, and then graphics and hardware specs. There better be some dramatic changes over the current PSP for me to drop any money on this thing.
Check this out.

But for some odd reason, everytime someone so much as coughs in the general direction of the PSP, you always get at least one person who feels the need to validate their own PSP purchase by listing all these games, 60% of which aren't even worth playing or have a console counterpart that's far superior.
Those are the things Sony should be focusing on, I dont care if they copy nintendo like always, they're getting the second place anyway, no matter what they do (can't stand againts the 3Ds and its awesome third party delivery)
Wait no, I mean the third place or last, whatever... (i forgot about the Ipod)
also the people that run Sony are retards, and you know that, and they copy nintendo, look at the fucking move shit, come on! at least Microsoft tried to do something different with the motion control scheme, but sony?
I have a PSP, and I love it (and I admit is not a real portable) and I want my psp2 to be diferent from my ds or 3ds, they should stick to what they do right and focus on resolving the problems (battery and better tittles that are not cut versions of the console games for the west), and that's it, but nooo, they have to copy again and again...
I also have and Iphone, and if the PSP2 or PSPhone or whatever does not offer me anything diferent, then Im not gonna buy it, the way I see it Nintendo and Apple are covering pretty much everything now
Yeah... you are doing it wrong
also persona 3 portable was the reason I din't sell my psp long ago, sony owns atlus so much...
