Katamari Forever coming to PS3s on September 22 photo

Yes, that's a boring and functional headline, but I'll be damned if I'm going to make like every other blogger and write that Katamari Forever is "rolling" onto the PS3. Everybody's done that, and it's neither original nor clever. So nyah.

The headline pretty much says it all. Katamari Forever will be releasing exclusively for the PS3 on September 22. The game is more or less a "best of" collection, being mostly constructed from past games in the series. The majority of the levels are taken from prior games, although a few new ones are thrown in. It'll cost a budget price of $49.99, so it'll be a good deal for those who missed out on the other titles.

Who has the balls to play this game? See, I can come up with better Katamari-related puns, although they are clearly more vulgar and stupid.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., (August 28, 2009) – Leading video game publisher and developer NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. announced today that Katamari Forever™ has gone gold exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.  Use the Prince’s Katamari to roll up as many everyday objects as possible within a time limit.  The more objects that the Prince rolls up, the larger his Katamari becomes, allowing him to roll up bigger items.  The Prince faces his toughest challenge ever as Katamari Forever boasts the largest collection of stages, modes, songs, and cousins to date.  Remixed classic Katamari Damacy tunes, a brand-new storyline, multiple new visual effects and 1080p graphics round out Katamari Forever into the ultimate Katamari experience ever.

An unfortunate accident has caused the King of All Cosmos to lose his memory and all the stars to disappear from the night sky. The Prince must use his finely tuned Katamari rolling skills once more to re-create the absent celestial bodies, save his royal father and restore order to the Cosmos.  Thumb tacks, sushi, cats, people, skyscrapers, ocean liners and continents – nothing is safe as the Prince makes his way through the largest variety of stages in a single Katamari game.

Katamari Forever features a brand new art style along with multiple graphic filters to bring out even more variety than ever before.  The new changeable graphic filters give Katamari Forever a certain “je ne sais quoi” that all Katamari games possess.  Wood Tone transforms everything in the world into carved out wooden blocks while Comic Book paints the screen with bold colors and stroke outlines.  Players looking to take a trip down memory lane can switch to Classic to re-create the series trademark visual style in glorious 1080p.  Make sure to try them all out and find your favorite for a totally new way to experience the world of Katamari.

In addition to all these great new features, Katamari Forever also includes fun and frantic cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.  Choose your favorite cousin and play together or compete in heated Katamari competition.  Who will become the Katamari champion in your house?

Katamari Forever is rated “E” for Everyone by the ESRB and will carry a MSRP of $49.99 when it is released on September 22, 2009.

I only owned the PSP katamari, so this is a pretty awesome deal for me.

Even though I own both of the PS2 Katamari games I still plan on buying this. It'll be nice to have it on blu-ray and a best-of collection actually sounds kind of appealing.

Here's hoping they don't charge for half of the maps as "DLC" this time.

I'll probably be picking this up since I have only played some of the older katamari games at a friends place.

Isn't Katamari Forever the one where you only got to play like half the game and you had to unlock the other levels by buying them as DLC even though they were on the disk?

Hopefully that will change for this version...

No. No "hmmm."
Yes. Very, truly yes.

This is one of those franchises that should be put in the hands of mothers who think all videogames exist solely to train their children in the art of brutal murder.

Instead, you kill 'em with love and fab, colorful outfits and quirky tunes.

Hey cool. I get my copy of the Japanese version 10 days before then. Yay. :|

Ah well, it's not like the story changes or makes any more sense. I just get the King berating me in Japanese instead of English.

Probably for the best.

My budget says $19.99, just like the original. Which this is, just re-packaged.
