Katamari finally hits PS3 (in HD!) with Katamari Tribute photo

It's about time, eh? After its abortion of a less-than-savory 360 offering, Katamari Damacy is finally slated to make its long-awaited return to a Sony console later this year with Katamari TributeSiliconera reports that the title will be the first in the series to be presented in full 1080p resolution, so you can reap all the more enjoyment from the terror on your victims' faces as you roll them and all they have ever known and loved into a writhing ball of delicious chaos.

The magazine scan that brought the good tidings says that the game will have a "new visual presentation," which could mean that we'll be seeing levels with a bit more polish and depth like those found in Noby Noby Boy. That could also just be referring to the whole 1080p thing, but I'm hoping for the former option. Sound-wise, the game will reportedly feature a song list made up of remixed versions of classic Katamari favorites, and it's suggested that this whole project in general might be a remix itself; possibly a "best of Katamari" level collection.

The name "Tribute" certainly alludes to such an idea, and personally, I'd be really excited for the prospect of replaying some of my favorite Katamari levels in full HD without any loading to get in the way of my gleeful rampage. Sure, an all-new game would be nice, but if recent iterations of this franchise are any indicator, we might be better off rolling in familiar territory. That is, provided Namco-Bandai doesn't whip out its fabled DLC rapestick and charge players to download every f*cking level individually. Anybody else holding onto the hope?

Is this a PSN game or a retail game. My interest hinges entirely on this one fact...

God what a great header. Good news!

It's awesome to see everyone still supporting Katamari after what they did with the 360's release.

Already played it for the PS2. So I'm not crazy about it now, even if they have better resolution.

@unangbangkay - You don't think the SIXAXIS will be employed? I seriously hope the dual sticks are the primary option, but I have a sinking feeling in my gut that they will use the SIXAXIS.

Oh God, I hope they don't use the fucking sixaxis. I hadn't even thought of that.

Well, so long as sixaxis controls are only an OPTION and not a requirement then it's perfectly fine.

Hell, my little brother would probably get a kick out of playing Katamari with the motion controls.

I, however, would not.

I'm voting for DLC rapestick, because DLC rapestick holds the core values I look for in a candidate.

Who wants to bet they'll rape ps3 owners with DLC.

Oh wait, its Bamco, its pretty much a fucking given.

Woohoo! Awesome news.

Sixaxis as an optional thing would be neat to at least try for two minutes and then revert back to the original controls, heh.

I adore the Katamari series, so this one is pretty much an established buy for me already.

The Tribute subtitle is puzzling though. Old levels? Remake? I suppose we'll see. :]

I have the first two on PS2 and I loved them. Back when I had a 360 I got that one. DDNT LIKE IT. I'll give this one a go. I just hope it feels more like the original 2 and less like the 360 one. I also hope that it is for PSN and not on a disk.
