Katamari Damacy making thrift store paintings so much better photo

If you were to go into a thrift store, the last thing you'd probably buy is a painting. What if that painting had a little videogame spin to it though? That's what Etsy artist loudxmouse has done here. He's taking thrift store paintings and giving them a Katamari Damacy bonus.

loudxmouse is currently sold out of paintings, but keep an eye on his Etsy for more to appear. I won't be surprised to see a new fad pop up out of this due to all of the attention loudxmouse is getting.

I would have done more to this painting. Basically he made the circle with a cd and outlined it. It would be better if he actually painted everything instead of finding it at a 2nd hand store. Anyone could do this it doesn't take much. what me to put street fighter 4, dreamcast, sonic, Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy series, god of war, soul calibur, zombies.

@Darkair

Do I smell a hint of jealousy? What kind of crack are you smoking anyways? That is a hell of a lot more than cd outline, its painted to look like it blends right in with the original painting.

It's funny when this was posted on Kotaku half of them bitched endlessly about how it violates the original painting...what the hell is up with that?

I think it's highly amusing though I probably wouldn't consider actually getting one.

Considering the premise of the game and that original iconic artwork, I think it's a great idea blend a Katamari into otherwise realistic world paintings.

@chronoswing are jealous

If original saw his painting sold then he would be furious. Plus art professors would let you draw simple cirlce like that. I'm not jealous, have seen better artist than this: Bansky. Takashi Murakami, CBS crew, 8-bit, other street artist, and fairy. This one Bansky painting I did like, but I can't seem to find it on the internet.

I'll just have to post some pics of the copy of the Pieta I resculpted to have Link and Zelda's heads so he can yell at me too. Oh, and while it does change the original, so what? People do it all the time with usually hilarious results. There's this idea of picking your battles and this one isn't it. Unless Bob Ross suddenly comes back from the dead, I think this guy's ok about pissing off the original creator. Come to think of it, if Bob Ross comes back from the dead, we're all screwed so the painting won't even matter. It's fun and neat so hush.

This is actually pretty common today, but I don't think I ever seen it done with video game characters. I'm definitely going to have to keep my eye out.

@darkair: The whole idea is that he's taking otherwise lackluster paintings found a-plenty in second-hand stores, and giving them a bit of an ironic touch-up, for a little bit of humor.

If he had painted them from the ground up, the effect would not be nearly as amusing.

Get it?
