Karmic retribution: Fox psychologist gets a taste of her own ignorant medicine photo

Most of you by now should be familiar with Cooper Lawrence, the smug psychologist who grinned and giggled while slandering BioWare's Mass Effect for content she had neither witnessed nor indeed, had any experience with firsthand. Well, it seems that she's now getting a taste of her own medicine, as insulted gamers have swarmed onto Amazon to review her book. The catch? They've not read it, but just like she and Mass Effect, that little detail hasn't stopped them forming a belittling and negative opinion of it.

Of the 442 reviews for The Cult of Perfection, a stunning 386 are one star reviews. A slew of comments spoofing the ones she made herself on Fox's Live Desk segment should spell it out clearly enough for even the ignorant Ms. Lawrence -- she trashed a game based only on hearsay and a desperate need for attention, now she's finally getting a dose of the potential damage her irresponsible behavior causes. Here's a few of the best reviews:

  • If she does have as much "research" as she does for her tv spots you can expect a book full of complete lies at best. Take everything she writes with a huge grain of salt or better yet save your money.
  • Trying to encourage sexual acts in a book made available to young children is unacceptable.
  • There's a new study out of the University of Maryland that says this book sucks.
  • This author does little research yet since she's a psychologist everything she says is taken as researched fact. Don't blindly trust her.
  • Steer clear of this pointless book and save your money, get Mass Effect instead. ;)
  • This book is filled with adult-oriented pictures and stories, yet it is apparently available and marketed towards children. I find this unacceptable. You will never see this book in my house.
  • Sorry darling, I gotta go with the research here, and the research shows - there's a new study off the Internet today that says that middle-aged, attention-craving women writing generic, run-of-the-mill, rehashed self-help books should not be listened to when they offer their opinions about matters they themselves admit they have never engaged or even done any research in.
I fully understand what some of you must be thinking -- that this is "stooping to her level," and potentially making gamers look bad. Perhaps it is and perhaps we should strive to be eloquent and intelligent, but let's face it, that didn't get poor Geoff Keighley very far. This kind of movement is something that these miserable hacks actually understand, and I'm not going to condemn a bit of good old-fashioned karma. Cooper Lawrence deserves this.

442? Amazon.com must have removed a lot of those because there were almost 600 by 3PM EST today. And, no, I'm not lying.

WTF stooping down to their level. She completely deserves it. But watch; she's going to start crying any day now and more and more middle-aged suburban housewives are going to fall into her bullshit.

I saw this coming from about a mile away...

Right after the report someone posted a link to her book and I think it had less than 20 reviews.

Karma is a bitch, indeed.

I cried as I read all the amazingly eloquent things people said about her book. The tragedy is that she is the only person to have been so vulnerable to the gaming backlash... we unfortunately can't do this to everyone who uses the subject of video games and violence/sex to gain the attention of the media (because not everyone has published a book for us to trash).

I fully understand what some of you must be thinking -- that this is "stooping to her level," and potentially making gamers look bad.

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm thinking.

Perhaps it is and perhaps we should strive to be eloquent and intelligent, but let's face it, that didn't get poor Geoff Keighley very far.

That's because Geoff Keighley was operating in an environment (that being Faux Noise, of course) that was inherently going to be hostile to his own interests, and if he wasn't aware that this was going to be the case going in, or if he somehow felt that he was going to actually get a fair shake, then he was merely deluding himself.

Honestly, yeah, I do think this is a really dick thing to be happening. I mean, sure, I dislike the bitch as much as the rest of you, and it's funny and all, and the bitch totally deserves it in a way, I guess, but, stop for a moment and think. Why is it somehow better for ignorant gamers who haven't actually read her book to be spamming Amazon site for it with bad reviews than it is for her ignorant ass to be talking shit about a video game she hasn't played? Is the second-grader logic of "well, she started it" good enough for us? It's okay when we do it, but not okay when they do it? Hypocrisy? Double standard? Why yes, indeed.

See, the problem with the whole "eye for an eye" doctrine here is that basically everyone just winds up blind in the end.

Guys, I implore you to stop being assholes about this. This may feel great in the short term, but it's not going to help our cause in the long run.

I wrote a review for her book at Amazon,

This book makes no sense. I haven't really read it. I looked at the research and it told me it made no sense. The research said it's confusing. Someone asked me the other day, did you read it? I laughed and said, Nooo! Then how do you know it's any good? I told them I did my research. That's good enough.

But I think we would do a great deal better for ourselves by simply refusing to engage with a channel as corrupt, hypocritical, and slanted as Fox News. Geoff Keighley should have saved his time.

Honestly, does anyone who even has a remote possibility of being a reasonable person give FoxNews any thought? I mean, I know it's maddening, but really.
