Most of you by now should be familiar with Cooper Lawrence, the smug psychologist who grinned and giggled while slandering BioWare's Mass Effect for content she had neither witnessed nor indeed, had any experience with firsthand. Well, it seems that she's now getting a taste of her own medicine, as insulted gamers have swarmed onto Amazon to review her book. The catch? They've not read it, but just like she and Mass Effect, that little detail hasn't stopped them forming a belittling and negative opinion of it.
Of the 442 reviews for The Cult of Perfection, a stunning 386 are one star reviews. A slew of comments spoofing the ones she made herself on Fox's Live Desk segment should spell it out clearly enough for even the ignorant Ms. Lawrence -- she trashed a game based only on hearsay and a desperate need for attention, now she's finally getting a dose of the potential damage her irresponsible behavior causes. Here's a few of the best reviews:
- If she does have as much "research" as she does for her tv spots you can expect a book full of complete lies at best. Take everything she writes with a huge grain of salt or better yet save your money.
- Trying to encourage sexual acts in a book made available to young children is unacceptable.
- There's a new study out of the University of Maryland that says this book sucks.
- This author does little research yet since she's a psychologist everything she says is taken as researched fact. Don't blindly trust her.
- Steer clear of this pointless book and save your money, get Mass Effect instead. ;)
- This book is filled with adult-oriented pictures and stories, yet it is apparently available and marketed towards children. I find this unacceptable. You will never see this book in my house.
- Sorry darling, I gotta go with the research here, and the research shows - there's a new study off the Internet today that says that middle-aged, attention-craving women writing generic, run-of-the-mill, rehashed self-help books should not be listened to when they offer their opinions about matters they themselves admit they have never engaged or even done any research in.
I fully understand what some of you must be thinking -- that this is "stooping to her level," and potentially making gamers look bad. Perhaps it is and perhaps we should strive to be eloquent and intelligent, but let's face it, that didn't get poor Geoff Keighley very far. This kind of movement is something that these miserable hacks actually understand, and I'm not going to condemn a bit of good old-fashioned karma. Cooper Lawrence deserves this.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Quote of the damn year.
Right after the report someone posted a link to her book and I think it had less than 20 reviews.
Karma is a bitch, indeed.
Worked for Hillary.
Oh no he didn't! Oh YES I did!
Seriously, I've had the pitchfork, torch, and even a villager costume on standby for years. Just say the word and we'll get 'em good!
lulz acquired.

@Eschatos: I'm not attacking you but... I could care less what she says at this point.
I work in a call center and came extremely close to laughing while on the phone when I read that comment.
Anyways, this psycho has it coming. Very funny if you ask me.
Yeah, you got that right.
oh hell it was fun readin those comments. Cooper Lawrence 4 PHAIL.
@ZeroTolo:
I didn't see any links to Goatse in those reviews. Stop giving them so much credit.
Especially the quotes from the ME interview replacing ME and putting the title of her book in it.
that attacked Tokyo Harbor
@Mr. Sadistic
Quote of the year indeed. One of the few things on the internet that actually makes me lolz for real.
Stooping to her level or not, this is what she deserves for being completely unprofessional, sensationalistic, and money-focused in her career as a psychologist.
Not me.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!
This book makes no sense. I haven't really read it. I looked at the research and it told me it made no sense. The research said it's confusing. Someone asked me the other day, did you read it? I laughed and said, Nooo! Then how do you know it's any good? I told them I did my research. That's good enough.
LMFAO @ cooch smells like rotting intestines
Epic review is epic.
But I think we would do a great deal better for ourselves by simply refusing to engage with a channel as corrupt, hypocritical, and slanted as Fox News. Geoff Keighley should have saved his time.
Honestly, does anyone who even has a remote possibility of being a reasonable person give FoxNews any thought? I mean, I know it's maddening, but really.
Take this example:
This book's title seems positive, when the actual book is anything but. The effort of the author and publishing company to market this book towards children is disturbing to say the least. While they claim that this book is actually marketed towards young adult women there is not yet an effective way to stop children from purchasing this book. The purveyors know this and see it as nothing more than an advantage to their bottom line.
Satire in its finest, to be sure.
