After having played the demo, I am keeping myself optimistically hopeful for the full game. As somebody who actually enjoyed the original despite its glaring problems, seeing this fantastically grotesque duo in a tigher game is very encouraging indeed. These characters deserve to be remembered for good things, not for getting Jeff Gerstmann fired.
Unfortunately, it's far easier to remove a good reputation than a bad one, so I can only keep my fingers crossed I suppose.
