Square Enix Europe (formerly Eidos) has today confirmed that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is coming to the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC next year. The follow-up to 2007's Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, the new saga will follow our titular killers as they wend their merry way through the Shanghai Underworld.

Two new videos have been released, one of which is and extended version of the viral teaser we showed a few weeks back, where a dog is battered to death with a chair. There is also a brand new one, "Bowling for Shanghai," which appears to be following the same viral "CCTV" style.

The promotional material looks and sounds promising, but then so did the promo material for the first one, and we all know how that ended. Nevertheless, I love the characters of Kane and Lynch, so I really hope that Dog Days improves the series. Perhaps the guiding hand of new publisher Square Enix shall improve the quality.

We shall see, and I'll definitely remain positive. In the meantime, watch the above teaser and hit the jump for another one.

Wednesday 18th November/...IO Interactive, part of Square Enix Europe is pleased to confirm that Kane & Lynch 2™: Dog Days is coming to PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC in 2010.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is a raw and brutal crime shooter designed to take players on an even more intense story experience, following two of gaming’s most disturbed criminals, through the gritty Shanghai underworld.

Introducing a new visual experience, Kane & Lynch 2™: Dog Days is inspired by documentary filmmakers and the user-generated era. Every aspect of the game has been designed to deliver a fresh perspective to the words ‘intensity’ and ‘realism’ in video games.

“Gamers are always looking for something new and that is exactly what they are going to get with Kane & Lynch 2™: Dog Days,” said Niels Jørgensen, general manager of IO Interactive. “A special thanks to gamers worldwide for their feedback. They are certainly in for a shock as we, with immense pride, welcome back our two dear, violent and somewhat unfortunate friends.”

Kane & Lynch 2™: Dog Days will be released on the EIDOS games label and will be coming in 2010.

K&L was my first PS3 game, along with AC1 and Resistance.

I loved it, although i remember firing up the Ps3 that first time, first experience of HD, not having set the resolution to max and thinking, wow, this game looks SHIT. Safe to say, in those days, once the res was cranked up, it was sweeeeeeeeeeet. Spent many hours doing the online, which was a fucking awesome Idea the whole doing a team robbery and being a traitor and all that.

Sure, games have come a long way since then, but hopefully this will have followed suit.

I R looking forward to seeing how this turned out.

(but more excited about Hitman 5)

The first game had a lot of interesting ideas and concepts, but was really broken in three easy steps;

1. Really bad controls

2. The last third of the game goes completely off the rails

3. FIGHTING THAT MOTHERFUCKING TRUCK.

(ahem)

Fix or excise any of the above problems, and then we'll talk. Also, what's up with the next Hitman, IO? That's what daddy really wants.

Eidos are really, really fucking good with promotional stuff, especially when it comes to I/O's projects. As a precaution, I insulate myself from any more of their purchases and just enjoy the trailers. Then I can preserve the fantasy that the game is fun and I don't have to spent £30 for the privilege.

How about a Hitman game where you play as the target and have to kill/escape from the hitman before the hitman kills you.

The club shootout in Gay Tony was more fun than the one in K&L.

You're actually positive about this game jim?

Kane and Lynch aren't bad characterizations of your standard "tough-guy" anti-hero, but as characters themselves they are remorseless, pitiless, horrible and almost humourless. Rooting for the bad guys or the less-than-honourable guys can be fun, don't get me wrong, but usually the anti-hero needs to be interesting or funny as well. Kane and Lynch are not interesting or funny or cool. One is a hardened ex convict who murdered people without pity for a living, and the other is a psychotic unstable bastard who is about as lovable as a mafia thug can be.

It's impossible for me to like the Kane and Lynch series. Even if the game-play was good, I could not like the game, for the sheer fact that both Kane and Lynch are horrible, horrible, horrible people and I really don't care what happens to them. At least with Alex Mercer in Prototype, he had a somewhat interesting mystery surrounding him and could do some cool stuff. With Kane and Lynch, you get... grizzled old bastards who pretty much deserve every horrible thing that happens to them.

I don't see how anyone can stand the characters.

I honestly cannot stand behind this right now. Like most folks out there, I was very hopeful that K&L would have been the spiritual successor to Freedom Fighters. I a way it was, but horribly busted and not fun.

First game was ugly and completely horrible in almost every way. My friend and I tried to play co-op. I think we played the first three levels and couldn't go any further. It is really one of the worst games of this generation, and anybody who says otherwise just has bad taste.
Seriously, avoid it like the plague.

Korolev:

Personally though, that's what I like about it the most. The very fact that these are scummy, sleazy, fuckers who deserve all the bad shit they get into makes it interesting for me. Even most anti-heroes in games have some charm to them that makes them lovable and often noble, but it's cool to step into the shoes of two totally irredeemable pieces of shit.

I will remain positive about the game. I can't say I'm excited or anything, but I shall be hopeful until I get to play it myself.

Agreed... I played the game when it came out, I liked IO enough to get it on release and ignore reviews, and I have to say I enjoyed it. The characters and feel of a movie like Heat or Pulp Fiction did a lot for the game, as did the general Michael Mann feel of the look. It wasn't pretty, but on PC with high res it looks fine.

Looking forward to the sequel.

That just sounds like a really good movie that I'll spend $10 on.

I love watching sick and deranged individuals on screen, but don't want to spend $60 to "try" and play it :p

All I remembe about the first game was the controvery surrounding Gamespot and the review score. However, having played the game later, it wasn't as bad as advertised.

Maybe it was because I wasn't hyped about the game at all, but I played it and enjoyed it. Yes, it was flawed. Gameplay could be wonky and it was weird sniping people in the head with a pistol and using the SMG in open areas to gun people down, but overall it was quite playable.

That said, I do hope that the second game really improves on things.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't mind a sequel. Developers and publishers will do anything they manage to see fit, whether because someone made a very convincing pitch or because they have nothing better to do. Granted, I'd much rather see a new Hitman title over this, but now I'm kind of looking forward to it. As for the first game, it could have been much better if done right, so maybe that's what they're doing here. Remember the first Assassin's Creed, how it sucked so bad? Imagine this were the same situation. And yes, I am comparing Assassin's Creed 1 to Kane & Lynch 1. Flame me, whatever.

I'm like only of 5 people who liked this game right? Shure it went off the rails at the end, but whatever it could have been far worse, and the characters are more interesting that a lot f the games that are out there.

Is Shanghai the new WWII? Off the top of my head, Splinter Cell Double Agent went there, Army Of Two is going there, now Kane and Lynch will be there....Not sure if I remember this right, but didn't Lara Croft go there for a bit in Legend, where she was in her evening gown and jumping rooftops on her motorcycle?
And that's just spur of the moment games that popped in my head. I'm sure some others went there in the last five years, too.
I feel like I've lived there a chunk of my life...all virtual.
