More disappointing news for those who thought a quality videogame movie might be on the horizon (all one of you). The Latino Review is reporting that the upcoming Kane and Lynch movie, starring Buce Willis and Jamie Foxx, has lost its director, Simon Crane, only two months before the movie was scheduled to go into production.
The report says that Crane wasn't working out well with the film's producers and so they have parted ways. This isn't really bad news in that Crane is some amazing director (he's a stunt man/second unit director) and now he's gone, but because any film project that kicks of with controversy is usually headed in a bad direction.
There's still hope, however. While no new director has been confirmed, Wayne Kramer is said to be in talks with the producers. Kramer previously directed The Cooler and Crossing Over, so while he may not know action quite as well as Crane he is at least an experienced director. Willis and Foxx are still a go for the movie.

I always knew that the people producing videogame-based movies never actually play the games themselves, but now I'm wondering if they ever even look the box art.
Now, why the hate for Jaime? I know it doesn't make sense, but you're trying to make money here, not scare people away. I don't agree with it necessarily, but I get it. All I want to know is this: Who do you 3 propose plays the white guy with long hair and glasses who acts like a maniac? While I'm sure there are plenty of great actors who could do it and do it well, who can you name that would a viable choice commercially, not just critically?
Please, let me know. In the meantime, stop giving a shit about a movie based on a shitty game.
Is everyone against Jamie Foxx because of his acting abilities or his skin color? What if he's a great fit for the character? Does that change the story?
And I never knew there were so many "fans" of the series that are so adamant about the mythos being tainted.
Even if it's not 1 to 1 with the game I'd rather a good movie than a mediocre retelling of the game.
That would have guaranteed the movie be a ball-out action-fest. Maybe they'll have silly things like characterization with a new director. Ugh.
Steve Buscemi or Michael Madsen. Either would make a great long-haired, unshaven maniac. I understand that H-Wood's going for name-brand actor appeal, but I just can't see Jamie Foxx as a psychopathic killer. Audiences might not buy it, either.
It's much more about his age, Lynch is a 40ish psychopath with a dead family, I just can't see Jamie like that.
@eternaldeathslayer
Jim Beaver..?
The only reason Assassin's Creed 2: Lineage was so good was because the actors were damn near spot on.
Do you know who Simon Crane is? He's a stuntman/stunt co-ordinator making his first debut as a director? Trust me, that movie would be fucking garbage.
Actually, a bad game can have good story, or at least a good starting point to make a good story. A movie doesn't have to think about if the game had bad gameplay, bugs, too long/short play time and so on.
Good games like Mario doesn't have the story to make a movie, which has been proven. But games like Uncharted (basically a Indy movie) could work, and maybe Kane and Lynch (have not played it though, so can't say for sure).
The problem with movies based of games are often not the games, just bad directors and writers.
Just hope Uwe Boll doesn't take the job.
I can't speak for the other commenters, but I personally don't give a shit about this movie. I've never even played Kane & Lynch, so I have nothing to be upset about. I'm just puzzled by the recent onslaught of videogame adaptations that have nothing in common with the source material. I genuinely don't understand the purpose of doing that.
And this isn't unique to Kane & Lynch. I remember when the Final Fantasy movie came out, I was so disappointed by the fact that it clearly had nothing to do with the series that I didn't bother seeing it. If it hadn't been marketed with the "Final Fantasy" label though, and had instead been marketed as the standard sci-fi story that it is, I might have actually been intrigued by it.
That's what I don't understand. I get the feeling that the Hollywood execs assume that slapping the title of the latest game on a movie will automatically make it sell better, when in reality I think it hurts its sales because their target audience (i.e. the people who actually like the game) feel resentment towards the movie.
Now about the actual news: All one of us are disappointed but the new director sounds swanky. I definitely thought with those ads that they were further into productions.
But if I was able to recast the movie, I'd say Mickey Rourke, Ray Liotta or John Malkovich would have made an awesome Lynch. Or maybe recast Bruce Willis as Lynch and Billy Bob Thornton as Kane.
But like you said, the movie is probably going to be shit anyway. It's just sad that straight away they decided to disregard the source material for the two MAIN characters.
Also, why is this video game getting a movie? Does the Publisher want to bully movie critics next?
Not that I'm racist or anything but they're both white...
"However, you cannot convince me that video games story lines are inferior to that of movies, especially with some of the shit that passes for movies nowadays."
Maybe in Hollywood you are correct, but I urge you to broaden your horizons. I agree with Mr Zurkon, video games really need to catch up in terms of an actual well told story. But I understand how hard it is for developers, because video games need to appeal to a massive amount of people in order to be worth the production values.
ffs shitty editing for retards
And did Kane and/or Lynch have an afro-American friend?
Seriously....¬¬...they did the same with The House Of the Dead with G...
Hell, as great an actor Samuel L. Jackson is, I still don't agree with what they did to Nick Fury.
He's a great actor, all around.
Well suited to play Lynch, even if he doesn't have any of the physical characteristics.
I think John Malkovich would have been superb as Lynch, especially after his Cyrus the Virus role in Con Air. He's got the Lynch look naturally, is a great actor, and knows how to do deranged psycho well. Billy Bob Thorton would have been a great second choice, for looks and acting pedigree.
What's going on with this film is pure hollywood politics. I find it insulting, even as a black gamer, that they change the characters around to suit themsleves, but I also think that this is Square Enix's bending over for hollywood somewhat. In the end, despite the presence of Jamie Foxx, this film will succeed where FF: TSW failed miserably.
The casting choice of Jamie Foxx does look odd, especially after Willis's Cop Out buddy cop crap (I also think they are doing this to get the Die Hard 3 fans in, recreating the Willis/Jackson like duo)). they could yet surpise us though, as there's the possibility of Foxx appearing in latex and cg as a white guy. Sounds a strange outside option I know, but could happen, while I also hurl a bit at the idea. Their onscreen chemistry will be vital in carrying the film. There's also the possibility that those pulling the strings might have tried to get certain actors, but they were already busy contracted elsewhere, and such the film's window can't wait to have them.
Overall, I still think it can be a cool flick, as Kane and Lynch's strength was always its gritty story and its unique drug laced presentation. The action, will be the easy bit to do, but may suffer now, unless they get someone good in.
Careful you guys, your klan outfits are showing.
If you want the original Nick Fury, check out the old 'Nick Fury of SHIELD' TV movie. He's played by David Hasselhoff in it.
I personaly didnt play the game but from a review of the story and character they seem enjoyable to play as, but yet again another character cock up, like PoP yea lets get an american to play an persian. Yea lets get a black guy to play a white character, thats logical = the rare few who play the game then watch the movie its guna be a flop.
