I seriously think that it's pretty cool that someone created a vehicle solely for picking sh*t up and putting it back down. How great is that. And even though that's all a forklift does, you still have to acquire a license to operate one. I don't want to go through all of that; I just want to drive one around for a bit. Is that crazy of me? And no, Shenmue does not count.
While it won't exactly be the real thing, Forklift Truck Simulator 2009 should fit the bill. It's first-person, and it even has that electric motor sound. Drive through a warehouse, find sh*t to move, and then spend forever trying to get the two prongs of the forklift to line up with the two slots in the pallet. Gratifying! Exciting!
In the video below the jump, you'll see that this PC sim looks to be pretty legit. The only thing missing is that backing up beeping sound. That would have been like music to my ears.
Am I nuts in saying that this looks to be pretty fun?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, I love how the game has "2009" in it. As if it will get yearly updates (a la Madden), complete with new drivers, forklifts, and warehouses!
I like "get this here bring it there" kind of things to keep me buisy, mostly in games where you need to gather your own resources and bring them somewhere to make stuff out of it.
Well then I certainly hope you've played A Kingdom for Keflings!
GOTY.
FAIL
The only way it can be considered a sim, is if you can cut the wheel to fast and tip it over ;)
So it's kinda cool to have that frame of reference and to be able to nitpick all the ways this is innacurate. For example, I don't know how the game handles unbalanced loads and other nuances of real forklift operation.
Beyond that, I don't see this being much fun. However, it would be a great application for use in training potential forklift operators.
I just hope it has a mini game where you change the propane tank.
"This is the most realistic interpretation of fork-lift work ever seen." :O)
It seems like depth perception really helps in lining up the forks though...
