Like everybody else, Destructoid was understandably skeptical when it saw a trailer for the new Bionic Commando. It looks so generic and uninspired, like it was just running down a list of modern videogame clichés and adding an oversized metal arm. Well, Bionic Commando's producer Ben Judd is far more hopeful than we cynical gamers, and has pledged that we will be happy ... he just needs time.
"In three months, I'm almost ninety percent certain that fans will be very, very happy," Judd pleaded with Kotaku. "Just wait and give me three months.."
As Judd requests that we call off the dogs, one wonders what he has up his sleeve to satisfy the demands of the nostalgic who don't want to see another old classic trodden on. Chances are, there's nothing that could placate some people, but I'm open to whatever he's going to pull out when that three months is up -- and rest assured, we WILL be outside his house with pitchforks and torches in exactly three months' time.
The clock is ticking, Mr. Judd.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And foist.
From what I've seen so far, it's basically a spiderman game with 80's homerotic action movie tones. Dark Void looks more interesting.
MADE OF BICEPS!
Well, unless it takes three months to officially become Japanese, I don't think there is much this guy can do to make me optimistic for this game. Capcom USA's track record for recreating Capcom Japan classics is just too wretched to forget.
To the good Mr. Judd, should he through some kind of pixie magic every read this:
1) Drop the dreads. Seriously. They're fucking stupid.
2) Add some references to the original Japanese story. Yes, the "Badds" were silly. But they weren't Badds. They were Nazis. Remember Hitler? Remember Hitler's head exploding? That was awesome! We need some Hitlerasplode in this somewhere.
3) Fanboys love remixes of classic songs. I noticed refrains of the original theme song in the trailer. This is good. Keep doing that.
Oh you've played SF4? How is it?
Get rid of the dreds/cornrolls and the over sized hotdog arm. And try not to make it look like Spiderman with a robo-arm okay?
thanks,
I don't think you're going to get anything outside of a city. I mean have you ever seen Spiderman set in Kansas? No, because Spidey's kind of useless without shit to swing from. Same thing here.
I think it looks like a hell of a good game, but then again that's probably just because it looks like Spiderman 2 for Gamecube which was an incredibly fun game.
But despite all the generic action game stuff, I still thought it looked quite good. It looks a bit like Spiderman with the spandex and emo tekan out and replaced with robotic arms and testosterone. The ruined city environments seem pretty epic, too.
