Glenn Beck has clearly gotten a taste for blood, as he continues his temporary crusade against Grand Theft Auto -- and it WILL be temporary, as he'll get bored of it when his viewers do. Here we see him talking to Dr. Cheryl Olson, co-author of Grand Theft Childhood, and as you can tell from his flabbergasted face, Beck seems quite disappointed that she's an expert who, for once, is NOT saying things he agrees with.

It's quite enjoyable watching him struggle to find a way to twist the argument back into the "GTA is evil" sentiment after Dr. Olson undermines his entire point. His shallow attempts to cash in on the controversy (ironic that HE's the one who says "M" stands for "Money") come to a head when he randomly, for no reason, blurts this little gem of wisdom out during the interview:
I will tell you that all these video gamers… they’re bloggers, as well as video gamers - they’re writing all kinds of stuff about me [that] I’m the enemy now of video gamers. I could care less about video games. Video game bloggers? They’re losers…
Yup, that's us. The very same bloggers you guys rely on to look trendy and cool nowadays are losers. I'm not even offended by that, actually. If Mr. Beck wants to tar an entire blogging industry with the loser-brush, that's his business. Our business, however, is posting a YouTube of his stupid ramblings so we can all get hits off it, without providing a single shred of a f*cking rating to CNN.

So suck that one down, mate.

This douche only WISHES he was important enough to be considered the enemy of the industry.

Ironic he calls us losers when he's on TV spouting nonsensical bullshit about a topic he doesn't understand or even try to understand. Looks like I'm not watching CNN anytime soon.

@Pagster - know your history Jack Thompson before his rampage on games went after Hip Hop...but now if anyone (white) were to try and attack it they would be labeled racist.

Truth be told it is not the media that is corrupting minds it is the lack of attention paid to children by their parents.

Cheryl Olson needs to go on more of these shows. She does a excellent job providing a reasonable voice to the debate. I'd love to see a well moderated discussion between her and Jacko on the subject.

You know, I barely even paid attention to his rant on video games. I was much more focused on the fact that he blames Television, Magazines, and everything else in out society for making our society bad.

Yes, let's all go back to being farmers and playing with hoops and sticks. Because nobody was ever violent or depraved before those evil, evil MASHEENS were invented.

I thought Glenn Beck was a blustering moron before it was cool. Seriously, between Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs, and Nancy Grace (I assume all of these were brought on to CNN to try and win back viewers from FOX News), it just makes you want to punch yourself in the face in despair at what we are calling news these days.

people give Fox News a lot of shit, which it deserves most of the time, but i think the larger problem isn't Fox specifically, but 24-hour news networks in general, evidenced by this latest stunt by CNN. think about it; they run "news" for 24 hours every day and most of the time, there isn't really that much true news anyway. therefore, they have to sensationalize, repeat and beat to death every scrap of loosely defined news that they catch wind of to compete with each other. and what do they do the rest of the time? they air opinion shows and one-sided interviews with panels of "experts" to fill the gaps. that's why i don't watch CNN, Fox, MSNBC or any of the 24-hour networks. it's the same shit repeated ad nauseum, spun to the point of ridiculousness and it's a complete waste of my time.

Nice journalistic aside he creates for himself there. I think I almost understood the link for a second. When faced with adversity the best action is ranting about the way you wish the news segment was progressing, and throwing in leprosy for good measure.

Also @Pagster. I think you're oversimplifying things if you want to blame some media for the 'downfall of society'. Whats your solution?? Have the government regulate everything?? It falls back on individuals, and the necessity to educate your children and be honest with them.

I work in an emergency department, I see the kids who are going to be criminals one day, and I dont pick them by the GTA 4 shirt on their back, or the rap music playing on their brothers ipod. It's the way their parents dont interact with them, or look blasted out on crack, or the fact the kids presenting with the third fracture in 2 years from another 'fall down the stairs'. These parents are the people fucking up (y)our society, not hip hop and not videogames.

My roommate and I were watching this last night and when he asked her "well isn't the game teaching kids to find prostitutes?" And she answered "well most kids say they never knew about them, you don't need them to 'win' the game" was awesome.

Pnwed indeed.

I thought she did a fine job, especially considering the title of her book. I am sure Beck brought her on because of that and was mistaken.

Sorry, but as an educator, I gotta agree with BlackSunEmpire on this one. I've seen to many kids with bad tendencies, with parents who don't know how to raise their kid. I've got parents who believe their child can do no wrong (thus no punishment), another whos dad treats his mom like crap (he shows me a little respect for being male, but he constantly fights the female teachers), another whos mom blames us for his not doing home work (she wants us to bribe him with our money), and the list gos on and on.

Parents have the greatest impact on a child's development. Besides, every kid I talk to has already played GTA in some form (beyond GTAIII).

Glenn Beck is simply there so CNN can try and siphon off some of Fox News' audience.

But it doesn't help that CNN's technology reporter, when talking about GTA IV, got so many things about the game wrong, I started writing a letter to CNN asking them to fire her. And it wasn't like "Oh, you can beat up hookers" kind of talk. It was her getting things wrong about the game's features, stuff that 15 minutes of research would have shown her were dead wrong.

I'm still convinced broadcast news is the worst thing to ever happen to journalism.

To be honest, I have actually been a fan of Glenn Beck for years now, and even though he has absolutely gone completely off the deep end with this GTAIV thing I still have to say that I agree with most of his views.

Still, the guy needs to tone it down on the GTA4 thing. Perhaps if he would sit down and actually play the game he might be able to give an objective opinion that is based upon experience and information rather than here-say.

"parents can't work the controls"

seriously, haven't video games been around long enough that pretty much every parent had played them at some point in their life? i mean, i understand not knowing how to use the 8 buttons to do everything, but these people act like if they pick it up, they will just run into walls and in circles. i think it's just this stigma of admitting that, yes, i played video games, but now i'm an adult so i'm too mature to even consider having the basic hand coordination to control a game. retards.

It's just interesting, I'm sure he hasn't even looked into the storyline or the fact that Liberty City in GTA IV, is actually a parody of our society.

GTA IV makes more valid politcal and social points than I've ever seen in any other game. Personally though, I don't think that kids under the age of 15 should be playing this game, that's just me.

I wouldn't let my kid watch The Hills Have Eyes, sure you can pick up a hooker in GTA IV, but a girl gets raped by a mutant and a whole family gets slaughtered on the big screen and we don't care? That's fucking backwards, at least in Nevada hookers are legal.

I don't know, I think maybe people should be focusing on movies way more than games, there's a lot of sick shit out there that any kid can just download on the internet for free and those are REAL people acting out that stuff. At least with GTA IV, you have to have $60 and an I.D. - which I've been asked for every time I get a M rated game and I'm 26.

If you are afraid of your child being brainwashed into becoming a killer, maybe you should examine his illegal copies of The Devil's Rejects and Natural Born Killers and PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT THE CHILD IS DOING/WATCHING.

Lay off the anti-depressant/cocaine/wine cocktails and realize that you made the choice to have a child in the first place. Be responsible and stop letting the ratings whores of the media feed off of your inability to do your PRIMARY job.

Bottom line is, the name of the game is GRAND THEFT AUTO. READ THE FUCKING TITLE BEFORE YOU BUY IT, that should give you some indicator as to what kind of game it is.

Eh, he just came off as a guy who read some things and was annoyed by them. Thus, he didn't care much for anything that had to be said. Matter of fact, I think it was pretty disrespectful of him to Cheryl to begin looking off camera and laughing at what she was saying.

But aside from that, I agree that yes society is the problem - not games. In terms of what Jack and people like him are trying to prove, the entire picture is wrong including the frame, not a few strands of the canvas.

As for parents not being able to work the controls. I personally feel that the controls are pretty self explanatory. Anyone who has worked a remote control for a TV is familiar with a D-Pad of sorts. Anyone who has worked the menu on a TV is familiar with a select and back button. For parents to apply things like parental controls on a console, it should be something fairly easy to grasp - especially since most of the time it's easily noted at the bottom of the screen.

However, I can't just blame parents for not understanding. I know that few parents of our age played videogames, especially for long. Face it, we're in an age where the parents of teens now, only had interfaced with the early games, and even then - it was a rather "geeky" and "uncool" thing to do. There were more important things to do like styling your hair with mousse and listening to 80's synth music.

The age that was more acceptable to games and more interfaced with them only has children that are about the age of 6 usually at most. You might want to count the extreme number of teenage pregnancies in that as well, whoms children are something around 3-4.

I personally think that news shows would be better off giving an unbiased commentary. If he doesn't like games, then fine. He can give his opinions. But why toss in "loser" or something of that matter. When I was discussing Beck earlier, I could have said "This douchebag" but yet I did not.

If he was unbiased and gave a decent amount of actual looking into what he's going to talk about rather than "winging it", gamers wouldn't be upset. I am not too upset with him myself. If he truly wanted to get anything done, he'd show people ON THE AIR, how to set the parental settings on the console. It's not hard. For some reason parents don't care about their children enough to be bothered with this sort of thing. But at least that's the right thing to do rather than say a bunch of "what if".

"Internet bloggers are losers", well Beck, nice of you to be concerned for the gaming public, which also, it is the exact same people you are Soooooo worried about playing video games.

Children will be exposed to violence and sex wether you like it or not, that day comes at an early age. Do something about it showing them what is wrong to do and whats right, but playing a video game is not wrong.

And yet this dipshit gets paid >10 million to continue living his life the way he does.

It's not the video games that are fucking kids up, it's society as a whole and daytime television programming on CNN.

Blogging "losers," btw, are the reason people like Beck have jobs. Were it not for bloggers taking viewers away from TV to a medium where news can be discussed and posted ten times faster, the networks wouldn't be so desperate for ratings that they'd resort to people like Beck.

I found Glenn Beck mildly entertaining at one point, but this proves he really has no expertise in this area of politics. When the doctor chick doesn't give him what he wants he takes a cheap shot at gamers and bloggers that doesn't even have any context within the argument. It's kind of like his entire spin on Grand Theft Auto and violent video games - he's a taking a cheap, easy way out and without making too much sense of it all. Not cool Mr. Beck.
