Just Dance 2: the best selling third party Wii game ever photo

According to NPD figures, Just Dance 2 has now sold more copies in nine months than any other third party game on the Wii ever released. These games sell like hotcakes, especially in Europe where seemingly everyone among the Wii's target audience has at least one Just Dance game.

President of Ubisoft North America Laurent Detoc is obviously really happy with the news, saying it "solidifies the Just Dance brand as a pop culture phenomenon."

Together with the first Just Dance and Just Dance Kids, this franchise has sold a total of 14 million units in less than 20 months. Just Dance Summer Party is coming out next week, so you can probably add upwards of a million units to that by the end of August.

I can't wait for the Wii U versions that use the tablet controller's touch screen for karaoke lyrics and song selection. You are making those, aren't you Ubisoft? And using the Just Dance profits to fund things like, oh I don't know, Beyond Good & Evil 2?

Pop culture phenomenon? Mmm...I dunno. It could also just be a game a lot of people like.

Fun little factoid: if you use the VGChartz sales data, you'll see that one in every 13 European Wii owners has Just Dance 2. In the Americas? One in every 8. Don't be so quick with your stereotypes, Destructoid. ;)

@JFF,
this. after Dance Central it's really hard to play other "dancing" games since they really aren't dancing games like DC.

Don't forget WarioWare Smooth Moves was the first to do the Dancing with Motion controls on the Wii. The final "boss" microgame was a dance game that did basically the same exact thing as Dance Central. Not trying to make an argument or anything, just a fun little factoid.

And it's the only good thing Ubisoft makes anymore other than Assassin's Creed sometimes. Get at me.

And +1 for Dance Central > Just Dance

I found Just Dance to be pretty fun. Great for parties and to laugh at each other while playing.

We Cheer 2 > Just Dance any day

That's Namco's EBA-influenced dance title and it's awesome.

It's still a good game, but only if you and whoever's with you are in the right mood.

The closest thing I have to a third party game on the Wii is Sonic Colors, that's as far as I'll go.

@MANSTA8

You're missing out. No Sin & Punishment 2? No Little King's Story, Monster Hunter Tri, Zack & Wiki, No More Heroes, Red Steel 2, and other titles?

OH WELL.

Maybe if Red Steel 2 had included a set of rhythm mini games?
