Just Cause two stats are a little bit crazy photo

It's been about six months since Just Cause 2 landed, but in a game where you can run around an island and do whatever the hell you want with a wide variety of awesome things it's no wonder people have been playing the heck out of it. If you need some numbers to back that up, Square Enix sent them over to us. There's some interesting stats here.

For instance, "570,329,283m is the combined height of each player's highest base jump, which is roughly 14 times the circumference of the Earth, or the equivalent of free-falling from the Moon one and a half times." Then there's, "The total game time of all players in Just Cause 2 is 26,118,470 hours. That's equal to 1.1 million days of playtime, or just under 30,000 years."

Am I the only one that finds gameplay stats like that a little depressing? Clearly I love playing videogames and use much of my time to do it or I wouldn't be here, but man I could do a lot with just under 30,000 years worth of man power.

You can find the rest of the stats in the sexy "infographic" below.

With that logic, you could make one tremendous case against sleeping.

Sweet Holy Hell. I loved my time with this game. Need to go back and finish it though, only about 30% of all the locations completed for me. That game munches up my time like a bitch.

This was my surprise game of the year. Not literally my GOTY, but fun nonetheless.

I have to get this back from my buddy I loaned it too.

I really liked taking that single seater prop plane and flying around the islands with it. Felt like a tourist

Hey, it's 3,000 years not 30,0000 isn't it?

@Heman:
No, their maths is right. 1.1 Million hours divided by 30.000 years makes rougly 360 (days).

@ Jnr Johnson,

Would it be better spent committing genocide or starting another war? Seriously, what's so wrong with playing video games? And what're you doing here?

@runtheplacered- No, but it could be spent towards curing a disease :P There's nothing wrong with playing a game. Playing excessively though is a different story.

I can't really see why they say that we are "playing exccessively". First, its our life we can do what we want with it. Second, they are not saying that all of those years are just a few guys stats, that's gamers from all around the globe. Think about it, they just need to spend one hour each in the game and BAM, stats like this.

Eh, considering how good the game sold, that's really not that much time per person. I'd be more curious about the cumulative time played for a real blockbuster game, like Halo 3, MW2 or WoW. :)

I just finished playing Just Cause 2 and sent it back to Blockbuster yesterday. There's so much crap to do, I can easily see how hardcore players could put an absurd amount of time into it.

Well, look on the bright side, Matt. It's entirely possible for all of this to be serving a better purpose than you seem to believe. Why? I'm glad you asked.

The government has been secretly collecting this data the entire time. See, they already have these weapons and devices made in real life. They just need to figure out the best way to use them. So what they do is, they release prototype training programs to the general public in videogame form. Kind of like in The Last Starfighter.

It really does make sense when you think about it.

Its hardly perfect but it is a hell of a lot of fun. The final mission is balls to the wall insane, too. Probably the most stupid epic thing I've ever done in a video game.

This is a great game and I think it should be considered for GOTY (but I know it won't be). I think I've put in close to 70 hours if I remember right. MAG and Oblivion are the only games I've put more time into.
