The Prototype versus inFAMOUS war -- which was a totally serious war that everybody cared about and had huge ramifications on the game industry -- has finally concluded after a bitter and bloodsoaked struggle. The NPD results are in, and Prototype not only beat inFAMOUS, but every single game this month in the battle of the game sales.
Oh, and I'm joking about the seriousness of the "fight," just in case everybody on N4G misses the not-very-subtle sarcasm again.
With over 419,000 copies sold in June, Prototype was that month's best selling game. inFAMOUS made it into the top ten, but occupied the tenth position with 192,000 sales. Whether or not things would be different if Sucker Punch's title wasn't a PS3 exclusive, we'll never know, but it's safe to be said that this truly reflects the cost of going exclusive with your games.
Hit the jump for the full NPD top ten, if you love looking at long numbers next to videogame names.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I hear they just build the houses out of them now.
@EDS, maybe, wait for Jim's response.
PROTOTYPE IS A 360 EXCLUSIVE. CHART PROVES IT.
inFAMOUS was released on May 26th, and sold 176.000 copies in 5 days then.
Add that to the June copies to have similar data to compare, and you get a very respectable 368.700 copies sold in about the same time frame as Prototype (which was released in early June).
Obviously with 419.900 copies prototype still outsells infamous, but when you look ast the 360 installbase vs PS3 ... yeah.
infamous is not only the superior game (as per reviewers -and- Yahtzee's contest), but it did better on sales per machine average :)
Take that Protothing :)
that was sarcasm right? cuz I owned Prototype for the PS3. I didn't find it worth keeping after beating it.
The fact that you have to tell everyone that youre superior proves enough... Now get youre 12yeahr old girlfriend and let the matures do the talking!
And inFamous is a far better game :)
First thing's first, get a fucking Avatar, or get the fuck out.
Second, PL was being very sarcastic, chiming in on this whole "Infamous vs Prototype war" and along side Jim's article. PL loves Jim.
that's some fanboy's article. he didn't show where he got his "facts" from. Wait I only own a PS3. well now you just look stupid.
Thank you. I've been waiting so long for "ps3center's" analysis of the stupidest argument in the gaming industry, especially since the NPD cannot be trusted.
Who fucking cares.
I would have get an avatar but ive runin out of dog pictures.
Ok Mr.Superior
Nö is es och nuesch! Dafuer schnall ich aber alles was du hier laberst und du Piefke gar nix. So jetze kannste dir bei google sowie co erstemal ne platte machen was meiner einer hier ueberhaupt labert, aroganter Schnösel!
I still prefer inFamous but that's my opinion. Not shocked though with how well Prototype did
I thought this whole thing is going in the wrong direction kind of bashing jim! So i made my coment. So then your little friend came in to join our little dispute sreaming "get a fucking Avatar, or get the fuck out". 2 against one, very charming. He said somthing,i said somthing, you said somthing.
We here in good old Bedrock have saying its like this: "Über seinen eigenen Schatten springen". It means to forget once youre own pride to get things arranged in a good direction before things turn out more worse for everyone.
So here is my apology for missunderstanding your sarcastic coment, iam sorry!
yours sincerely
Caveman, Nazi, Kraut, Jerry, Hitler or what else you are calling us
Perhaps they should release Prototype on the PS3 to make even more money.
I hope you realize what the article you linked to said. It makes no fucking sense! How do you proclaim "winner" a game that sold less? That doesn't make sense at all!
They did, we didn't want it.
Wrong logic is stupid.
Your constant little smug attempts to look smart often fail. Again, look at this bit of the article:
"but it's safe to be said that this truly reflects the cost of going exclusive with your games."
That is the point here. Stupid.
