You know what's tougher than a shark? A papercraft shark that somehow manages to survive in water. I'm impressed.
Hailed as the "best looking new game I've seen so far this year," by Destructoid writer Jonathan Holmes (ha ha Holmes, I have written proof in an email, you can't sue me!), Derrick the Deathfin is described as "illegitimate lovechild between Sonic the Hedgehog and Ecco the Dolphin". Expect to see it on PSN sometime in summer 2012.
Unique graphics is one thing, incorporating it in fun ways into the gameplay a la Epic Yarn or Paper Mario is another... I personally can't stand the Sonic mechanic where you speed forward uncontrollably and have to constantly stop and backtrack your momentum to collect stuff or choose another path (or destroy stuff/eat fish).
Thanks for the post, great to read all the nice comments too!
@snukastyle thanks - it's PSN first since we are a tiny team, if it goes well and people want it on other platforms then there's nothing stopping us.
@MetaTotoro If you don't like Sonic you probably won't like Derrick. In fact, if you don't like Sonic I don't think you & I can ever truly consider ourselves friends - sorry to break this to you in such a public forum ;)
@supergordon
lol... I always like the music and graphics in Sonic... *nudge nudge....buuuddy...
Anyways, I don't mean to rag on your game, I couldn't make anything near playable or as creative if I tried, so respect. There's something about this game, the music or the humour, that reminds me of Bart's Nightmare on SNES, which makes Derrick a definite must-try.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Officially on my radar.
