If you have a Wii and love Japanese horror, then you're no doubt interested in checking out Ju-On: The Grudge. However, the box art makes it look like the worst game to have ever existed. The American cover art is alright, save for its "Haunted House Simulator" tag line, but the European box? Oh my God, the European box ...
Just look at it! That's a Japanese horror game, being represented by a ludicrous white woman peeking out from behind a sofa as if this were the cover to a Goosebumps novel. Seriously, what is this nonsense? Where's the big scary Japanese female's eye and long black hair that every Japanese horror needs these days? Why does this look like the DVD case to a Nickelodeon show?
I hope it really is psychologically messed up and thoroughly scary. Anybody buying this for their kids thinking it'll be like Are You Afraid of the Dark? would be in for a total treat.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It's almost like they took a still from an equally bad television commercial.
Even if I was into Survival Horror Games (and I've played a few good ones) I wouldn't pick up this game.
The only thing scary about this is that someone was PAID TO MAKE THIS. PAID WITH SOMETHING OTHER THAN MONOPOLY MONEY! SOMEONE EARNED A SALARY MAKING THIS!
That sends shivers down my spine.
Also . . . really?
Okay yeah it's pretty bad
Also, did anyone else notice the hands on that woman? Someone fucked that Photoshop bad or something because her fingers look enormous.
T. Kanazawa
This quote on the front of the box has led to my wondering...
1. Who the fuck is T. Kanazawa?
2.Why would one be laughing at a survival horror game (unless it contains dialog a la "Jill Sandwich")?
3.Unless the game comes hermetically sealed with freshly sliced onions, why the fuck would I cry playing a survival/horror game on the wii?
Also, am I the only one who thinks that looks like Felicia Day?
Best boxart ever, confirmed.
Really though, years later, this terrible art still won't be a contender for worst ever since it's literally just some text and an image bought from a stock website. By definition only does it even qualify as a box art.
Oh wait, this is for Europe, I mean a "pack shot."
Looks quite effective.
This box art is hilariously silly. Almost what you would expect if you expected them to make a horror game look "casual" for the Wii audience.
