JP PSN gets Chrono Cross as a Twitter follower reward photo

To celebrate the 20,000 follower mark for the Square Enix Members Twitter, Square Enix is releasing one of my favorite PS1 RPGs in Japan for their PSN Game Archives line up, Chrono Cross. Andria Sang says that Producer Shinji Hashimoto, who manages the Square Enix Members Twitter, announced thethat Chrono Cross was coming to the Japan PSN today, but did not share a download time frame.

Square Enix says that there's another present to celebrate the 20,000 followers. We don't know what it is yet, but it will be something other than a downloadable game.

Hey, Square Enix. Forget counting followers in one territory. What's the hold up? You like money, don't you? Get these games up on PSN worldwide! We'll buy 'em!

If we get them to 100,000, do we get a Chrono sequel? I will freaking get them those followers if they promise me that.

Chrono Cross is, like, one of the few original Playstation games that I have that's actually still in pretty good condition.

I'm also still waiting for Xenogears and Vagrant Story to hit PSN.

What was the verdict for this one? Did people tend to enjoy it as much as the original?

@ timtheterrible: It's still good, but not as good as the first. But then again, whether it deserves it or not, Chrono Trigger stands on a pedestal far above any normal games.

This is hands down my favorite RPG of all time and just seeing the Chrono Cross title screen on the front page of Dtoid made me smile like a school girl, and I agree with Wehrmacht that Xenogears and Vagrant story need to go up there. What makes Chrono Cross awesome is how well it encourages you (like trigger before it, but even more) to play through the game multiple times to get different characters, different endings/views on story elements and it has some of the best design of the generation.

Did they confirm this is just coming to Japan? They showed the box art for both regions so they could release it in Japan sometime in the Spring and then release it in North America sometime in the Summer/Fall of 2011 (which is toooo far away but at least we'll see it unlike 'Xenogears' and 'Vagrant Story') *sigh*

Eh.. I just... I dunno... I liked Chrono Cross... but I guess I'm just stuck on it being a side-story within Trigger's universe instead of a true sequel, as well as it being a remake of Radical Dreamers, that makes me not get super giddy of this game.

Anyways. I don't think SquareEnix likes money. Between this not being on the US PSN, FF7 still not remade, and FF14 sucking ass, I think they in fact hate money.

If these digital releases actually performed better, like taking out the constant slowdown in Chrono Cross, then I'd jump on this sort of thing more often. Still, it's getting into a few more hands now, right? That's always a good thing.

@ Insanity

Thanks. I'd remembered being one of the very few games that had gotten a perfect score from Gamespot a few years ago, but I wasn't sure which one fans tended to enjoy the most.

I still have a hard copy of chrono cross, but for me it fails as a follow up to chrono trigger, one of the best games ever.

Well, we are still waiting on Vagrant Story (the the code just sitting in some dude's desk drawer waiting to be green-lit?), but this is a step in the right direction.

So close, SE. Now just BRING THESE GAMES TO THE U.S.

I would really love this on EU PSN because we never got it here. I don't think I've ever raged harder when I found out it wasn't being released here.

Chrono Cross had one fatal flaw: it was a sequel to Chrono Trigger.

That was the only thing wrong with it. The problem is, of course, it is being compared to the most impossibly perfect RPG ever made. Chrono Cross takes a lot of the same ideas and tries to build on them, while adding some really cool new ones, but...the developers didn't quite understand just how they'd made such a perfect game in the first place.

As such, CC is a bastard little brother. That said, it is a fantastic game, perhaps the best JRPG of the Playstation generation, and it one ups Chrono Trigger in one area: its soundtrack is up there with the absolute best ever. Cross has the better story, too, but much of that is lost in its labyrinth-like telling.

Sony, Hi there, GeneOB here.

Wanna know a quick way to make me get rid of my PSPs homebrew once and for all? Start talking with Capcom to bring out its library of PS1 titles to the service.

I expect the entire Mega Man line up before Mega Man Legends 3 hits on the 3DS.

Hnnnnnggggg. I need this game back in my life. I still have the soundtrack for this. I remember using "Time Scar" as background music in several of my flash presentations for my school projects back then.
