You'd think, but look at what happened with Deadly Premonition. You had this doofy music playing mere seconds after someone was disemboweled and that lightened the tone a bit.
Maybe if Jenova Chen did more stuff like that I wouldn't think of him as a pretentious nut-licker. "Hellooo, everybody, my name is Laguna Sephirothington Chen, and I make interactive artertainment. Where is my champagne? I cannot play The Path without champagne! Oh no no no."
