Sigh. It'll suck to see a masterpiece go out like that. At least its guaranteed to have "those five minutes" that every vg movie has that everyone looks at and says to themselves "why the hell isn't the rest of the movie like this?" Those parts are pretty cool.

sounds like either a horrible failure or a masterpiece, though given the history of video game movies....
Not sure how it'll work with the lack of dialogue. But I'll wait until things happen to jump on the "I'm cool, cuz I think this is bad!" bandwagon.
That said I feel almost positive it won't see the light of day, and if it does it'll be a serious long time from now.
Not as interested as I was when I found out that Beyond the Mountains of Madness was seriously possibly going to be a movie.... until it was abandoned ~.~
What videogame movies need is some artistry. This could be that movie. I HIGHLY doubt it will actually become that movie, but that's what it will take for it to be faithful. If done properly it could be Academy nomination-worthy. The material and scenery is that poetic already.
Not if it's two hours of a guy poking giant monsters in the head. That's fun to play, but not really to watch.
I like the game too much not to be worried about this.
i think the bandwagon you are referring to is "the movie industry has never competently transitioned a video game into its medium so why start with this one." why do so many people think that everyone else thinks it's cool to hate on things now? is it the new cigarette?
@b-rad
it's technically agro, but i swear to god he says it like argo.
my beef with the whole thing is that i believe it can be done, but you have to go outside the box in terms of movie-making and what you are going to be expecting from your audience. the only reason i believe this will be terrible is because people who make video game movies refuse to tread any new ground and instead try using more film-centric techniques and tropes to show/tell a story when they need to come up with a whole new set for this type of genre and its subgenres.
Obviously, what makes SotC work is the atmosphere of isolation, something the movies have never quite had the grasp of that games can provide. It's a deeply emotional piece of art, with minimal dialogue. The reason you don't get bored from the original is that you at least have control over the protagonist. Similarly, one of the most striking things is how hard it gets to kill the colossi - it's tragic seeing those magnificent creatures go down, but it's REALLY hard having to do it yourself. What could a movie possibly do to make you connect? They can't depend on beautiful scenery entertaining you, but at the same time they can't establish a deep emotional connection unless they change some of the content.
I do believe that they can make a great movie of this, but don't expect it to be like the game, because it definitely won't be.
This one is seriously good.
I thought Advent Children was pretty decent if mostly for the fight scenes, and DOA is entertaining in that "guilty pleasure" kind of way.
But Eternal Diva? Best movie based on a game, ever. By far.
Whether SotC will translate well, though? Probably not. If there was ever a game you should play for yourself instead of watch, this one would be high on the list. But we'll see I guess, I'd love to be proven wrong.
Make no mistake, if this ever gets made they will flood every scene with inane dialogue and catchphrases, add some sexy female character who comes along for the ride wearing revealing outfits of various types, and Agro will be voiced by Eddie Murphy.
Its not entirely conclusive that he's working on either of those though, he's just been "linked" to them.. Specially since they're both Marvel properties at 2 completely different studios. Unless Marvel figured out a plan to send in their own mole director (A mole man, if you will?) to make sure these two films are up to a certain standard, I don't know how Fox and Sony won't be saying "wait-a-minute here....".. Unless of course Trank decides he's going to wear a fake beard when shooting one.
As for a movie based on SotC.. I don't know.. The issue with the transition is that its going to lose a lot in the fact that people are going to need to talk, it probably won't be mostly silent.. From there it also means theres going to need to be more then just 2 humans in it.. Theres going to have to be towns and other characters, which is going to throw the tone off from the way the game was.
Way I'm seeing it is like the Tom Cruise movie "Legend" Movie could have been 2 humans and a bunch of untalking beasts.. They could have even told Tim Curry to shut up for 2 hours.. But no, they needed the little Saytr guy and shit to fill out the cast more. I see Colossus as being the same sort of thing.. You just know he's going to have a sidekick other then his horse.
Which.. Really.. Legend of Zelda guys.. He has Navi, maybe even tingle (*shudder*) and theres towns and stuff.. Much more perfect for an old school fantasy romp then Colossus.
