What's up with Alien Hominid in SMB anyway? He shoots downward while in the air but it doesn't give him any upward momentum or anything. I do not understand his power/advantage at all.
@ bentetris- You have to press the "shoot" button right after you jump. If you do, you get a pretty substantial boost. You can press it again while still ascending to get more boost.
AH is best used with fans or those weird magnet things in level 5, but if you get good with him, he can be useful in a lot of situations. Like Tim and Spelunky, he takes a lot of practice to use properly.

It's hard to believe that after 30+ hours of Super Meat Boy on the 360, I'm going to be buying and playing it all over again on Steam. But it's definitely gonna happen and I can't wait.

Of course! The answer was right there on my desktop! Now, as far as other characters that could make it in... One of the hoverthings from Audiosurf, one of the amoebathings from Osmos, the kidthing from And yet it Moves, or the birdthing from Blueberry Garden. Calling it!
Maybe if it was a hovercraft thing from Audiosurf, depending on the music you played, the level would be generated based on that?

I'm pretty sure that Bandage characters and warp zone characters are the only unlockable characters in SMB, unless you count the different versions of meat boy.
