John Woo wants to make another Stranglehold game photo

What can one say about John Woo's Stranglehold? We could say that the demo was awesome. We could also say that Midway should have just released the demo at retail and charged two bucks for it, rather than stretch it out into a full game and failing. Nevertheless, a Stranglehold movie is still on the cards, and Woo has stated that another game may arrive.

"We are going to make that into a movie," confirms the director. "... I don’t have that much time, even though I want to make [another game] again. But for the moment, I also am producing two movies. One is shooting in Taiwan. One is shooting in Shanghai. So I am quite busy these days."

If the movie isn't two hours of Chow Yun-Fat jumping in slow motion from left to right and doing nothing else, then I declare it will be the least faithful videogame movie yet made.

Might as well release it at a $5 price point because in a couple of weeks it will be that price anyway.

I loved the game, actually. It did have some flaws, but it was still pretty awesome.

Seriously? Why all the hate for Stranglehold?

I thought it wasn't half bad, at least the single player.

Basing a movie on a game which presented itself as the sequel to a movie that already exists seems kind of silly.

That said, "Hard Boiled" is fucking awesome. The sheer amount of pure, uninhibited badassery happening at on screen at any given time is unparalleled. The game version of Inspector Tequila is by comparison a bit of a pussy.

Okay, to everyone saying "NOOO, not another video game movie that will suck" calm down. It's Woo doing a Woo movie.

Seeing as I got the game dirt chap, I was more than happy how the game played, looked and how faithful it was to John Woo's style, if fact you could tell he had, proper, hands on control of how the game was made, unlike 'peter jackson's' king kong or the awful avatar game.

Therefore it was a very, very good max payne clone, and without a doubt the closest you can get to seeing what it would be like to play an interactive movie by him, (John woo), the gunplay was awesome, intense and epic in some instances.
The story was weak, yet you don't play a game by John woo for the story, you play it because no one can do action like him. Even today, years on, most videogames don't hold a candle to how intense and incredible the action is Stranglehold was. The shootout in the [i]museum/i]is one of the very few levels in gaming I hold in the highest regard.

Like eggdog14 said, Hard Boiled in categorically one of THE best action movies ever made, and hugely influential. It was one of the first few movies that had continued, unbroken action scenes, and even they are rare today, children of men being one of the few movies that employed this. Sure the game was a little weak, but for a tenner, it was bloody well worth it.

I borrowed Stranglehold from a friend, so the price was right. It wasn't a bad game, it just wasn't that great either.

I saw Hardboiled for the first time only a few months ago, and I have to agree with the people praising it above. I don't think I have ever seen a more fitting example of stylish mayhem.

I think John Woo should apply what he learnt making Red Cliff into a new Dynasty Warriors game.

But then that's just me :|

I got the game for $5 new at Fry's so I can't complain.
It had flaws for sure, but still pretty damn fun to me.

But yeah, Hard Bolied is so damn bloody badass.
THE best action movies for sure.
Inspector Tequila is damn hardcore.
Like what eggdog14 said, the game version of Inspector Tequila is by comparison a bit of a pussy.

I sure hope they want people to think of it as the sequel to Hard Boiled and not a video game adaptation. Also if you haven't seen Hard Boiled, GOGOGO.

Stranglehold was awesome when you found the one magic route through the level that killed all the guys while rolling on carts, leaping benches, and running along handrails. If you had to loop back around and clean up any stragglers, it was an exercise in patience. Loved it, tho. Painfully obvious the multi was forced in by the publisher.

Well, so long as the game plot gets rewritten somewhat for the film, I can dig another hong kong gunslinger film by John Woo.

I mean, where the hell did the little girl and the love interest from the game come from? What happened to his gf from Hard boiled? The 2 were talking about marriage by the end of that awesome film!!
