With Activision’s Guitar Hero seemingly headed full speed down the path of finger blistering fret board wankery, it was only a matter of time before some Joe Satriani tunes found their way into the mix. When Guitar World magazine asked Satriani about his thoughts on the success of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, the legendary guitarist dropped an interesting videogame-related gem.

“It’s funny you ask: Both game systems have just licensed ‘Satch Boogie’ and ‘Surfing With the Alien’ for upcoming versions,” he said, sounding a bit confused, and being very non-committal to one particular product.

Armed with that information, one can say that the songs may be coming to Rock Band as downloadable or in a sequel, or to Guitar Hero IV ... or upcoming downloadable content for Guitar Hero III. Based on the nature of Satriani’s music -- mostly instrumental pieces with a focus on how totally sweet and fast he can play guitar -- the likely bet is that when he says “both game systems,” he means Activision's title.

I'll be sending a query to the appropriate PR folks for both games, and maybe we’ll get more clarification soon. Or, more likely, goons will arrive at my house wielding baseball bats engraved with the words “No comment.”

I'm excited, that's for sure. Satriani has always been one of my favorite artist.

That's cool, but I wish Rock Band could snag some of these instrumentals. Damn vocals. *shakes fist*

I have to agree with Woocifer, it really is about time someone got Satch in their game.

I remember the first time my guitar teacher introduced me to him about 15 years ago and my jaw hit the floor. This man is amazing.

Now that their adding Satriani they should add stuff from Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, and others. But it would be hard to see on Rock Band because of vocals. But I have no idea why they don't add these real guitar enriched stuff to "Guitar Hero".

But they can always add in Whitesnake, Alcatrazz, Dreamtheater, Liquid Tension Experiment, Racer X and Mr. Big to rock band... but I prefer instrumental stuff from musical geniuses.

This is the perfect kind of music for Guitar Hero. I hope they release it as DLC cause I dont want to have to wait until the next game gets released.

I also hope they will release this as DLC for GH3. Satriani is an amazing guitarist and is a perfect fit for the game. Its about damn time.

Okay, so does anyone have a number for a kung-fu master that can train my left hand? Apparently that's the only way I'll have a chance in hell of getting through any of Satriani's songs.

Less Satriani, more Zappa please. Hell, any Zappa.

I have to agree with most of you above and say that I hope this brings forth the other virtuoso's out there. Seeing anything from Steve Vai, John Petrucci, etc. would be incredible.
