Until I checked your twitter and saw some 4 hour tweet >.<
Time to go get entertained with this JQ.
I also kinda feel capcoms had their head in their ass lately.
Which pains me to say because they are generally my favorite developers, but with the way they've been handling dlc and certain other things, they've been making me a bit mad.
But dragons dogma looks awesome!
1) Neverdead
2) Tried to make Metal Gear Rising without Kojima and ended up having to outsource the game to Platinum Games.
3) The pre-order bonus for Book of Memories on Amazon was a $5 credit towards only Silent Hill HD or Silent Hill Downpour. The pre-order bonus for Silent Hill Downpour was a $10 credit for Silent Hill HD or SH BoM. The pre-order bonus for SH HD was a $5 credit towards only SH DP or SH BoM.
This means that it was actually impossible to purchase all 3 games and get the pre-order bonuses. Furthermore, if you felt like getting just two, it actually incentivized NOT buying it on day 1, because the only way to even use the credit for SH: BoM was to have skipped buying the earlier releases when they came out. What ... ?
4) Transfarring: To even use this branded feature you have to buy the exact same HD collection twice on Vita and PS3. As far as I can tell, there's no plan for a bundled version at a reduced cost, which is the only way to even use it.
5) No Silent Hill 4, or Silent Hill 1 in the HD collection. No original voices until fans demanded it. No MGS 1 in the HD collection for Metal Gear.
Now that mentality is spreading to the other major series, such as Silent Hill. While I personally now consider Downpour to one of my favorite survival horror games ever created, as well as a game which possesses one of the best narratives I've ever experienced in any medium, that was more of Vatra being a good developer than Konami doing jackshit. The way they're misusing the license with "Book of Memories" and the way they're trashing a legacy with the "HD Collection" are both terrible. The original Team Silent weeps at what Konami has done to their baby, especially considering the bumbling "company" is probably not smart enough to keep Vatra and Daniel Licht on board for the next entry. They're probably going to turn it into some shitty "Condemned" rip-off or something. If it can be done wrong, rest assured, Konami will do it.
Fuck you, Konami, and thank my athiest god for Jim Sterling.
It's not all terrible, but they need a major wake up call so that they can fix their fuck ups and continue to put out stuff I enjoy.
Maybe they do know what they're doing.
That's what scares me most. There was a time where even my non gamer friends knew exactly what Silent Hill, MGS, Solid Snake, and Pyramid Head were. Now....not so much.
The sky is still blue, the sun still rises, and silent hill games still get bought. Konami has hardly done any advertising for anything, this isn't new, but their games still get decent sales. It just what they do.
Apparently its now doomsday for them because you think they fail at publishing and didn't respond to your request for an interview about their vita game?
Don't quit your day job.
Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if Konami was just trying to literally kill off their old console side of the business so they could focus exclusively on the social gaming side of their business since that's what is bringing in the money for them.
Of course it can also be fucktarded business practices (nobody should forget that Keiji Inafune said a few years back that the Japanese game industry was done for, and now we're seeing it really begin to accelerate).
Apart from that, yeah, Konami have really gone off the rails lately, especially with Silent Hill. It's a shame, because they have some brilliant stuff under their control but they're just shitting all over it. Good show, Jim.
Apart
If it weren't for Metal Gear and Fifa's lack of dominance, Konami would be dead.
I hope they get their act together!
As for the MGS HD thing, the release date part.. No one seems to care how they sell these HD rereleases, its not exclusive to Konami at all.
Thanks for bringing up the stuff I've said about all these Silent Hill games coming out in a single month. Thats a huge problem in itself.. THEN the HD collection being shit tops it off.. They really should have made them digital, split them up, and made them $15 each. Even if they were still shit, even separately, they'd still have made.. for lack of a better phase "Phat Bank" (been watching too much Breaking Bad recently, its starting to show).
As for Book of Memories: No amount of pushbacks is going to change the game from being exactly what Silent Hill fans don't want -a co-op, top down, shooter. Unless they're completely remaking the game from the floor up in a month or so's time, they're not going to win over fans on this one, specially when with a game for the currently niche Vita market. This is a bad place to have tried to pick up the ball, that would have been better done with the HD collection.
Konami's really has dropped the ball though, there's no doubt about that. I had said in another comment here today that they're back catalog is strong, but the fact remains that they can't really even live off of that long list of great games if they can't bother to sell it properly... Because, like Jim said in the video, its simply existing right now and nothing more.
