Considering how fast DoubleFine and Wasteland 2 achieved their goals, it's not impossible by any means to raise 200k in a single day. But that requires a lot of PR from the right people.
Also, shameless plug for Grim Dawn:

Not saying it's right, but that's the pattern I've seen.
Grim Dawn is a hell of an awesome looking game that has my support. Those guys seem genuinely excited to be making the game, too. That has to mean good things.
As for Republique, maybe if they don't hit the half a mil they could wait a month or so and put up another Kickstarter. Maybe aim a little bit lower next time... 350k or so? It's not that I think half a mil is too much to make a game. It's not. It just that people might be reluctant to contribute to a Kickstarter that doesn't appear to have a chance to hit its goal. Seems possible to me that a project like this might make MORE money with a lower goal.
It's definitely possible, but I personally feel in line with King Kong Five.
Kickstarter is all about momentum. Getting a lot of it right away and keeping it going is a big part of raising money like this. They had the coverage early, but they didn't support the platforms that would generate the cash.
Also, when the lowest tier is only $10 and it nets you the full game, it not only discourages people from paying more, but it also means you need that many more people to reach a goal of $500k.
Unfortunately, being from Canada I can't back it myself, so I'll have to put my faith in our allies to the south.
But then I hear Blanka in the back of my head saying "You'll never survive in the jungle!" and cringe all over again.
It was lead iOS. Then, it was learned that the iOS crowd doesn't research for things to fund, and then they announced PC support since many PC supporters wouldn't bother funding a project they couldn't play.
It still is lead iOS, it'll just have a windows version shortly after or developed at the same time. It seems that initially announcing it as iOS only still did the damage of not getting covered by many sites.
Jim did inform everyone when it became +PC, but its still short on funds.
On the other hand, is this even part of why they needed a kickstarter in the first place? Because they needed AAA voice talent for a game that, no matter how good it ends up, won't be?
I know I'm probably far from being one to judge, but this is one of those times I want to call out the fact that if the budget couldn't handle these people, then they didn't need to be involved in the first place.
