Jeff Minter set to torment ... I mean dazzle us with another XBLA game photo

Yeah, I don't know either. It would seem Space Giraffe mastermind Jeff Minter was unsatisfied with the reception his Tempest ripoff with llama sounds other XBLA title received, so he's put on his tie-dyed apron and popped another suckcake into the oven for us.

It's called Gridrunner +++, and it's headed for Xbox Live Arcade at some point. There's no word on a release date yet, but I'd venture to guess it will fall somewhere between "Too Soon's eve" and "Oh God, why? Day." Also, yes, it's really called Gridrunner +++.

The screenshot above shows a ship with a ... flaming goat-man thing in the background, and that's all I care to know about it. Interested parties can check out some more screens here, but I should warn you that the link is going to take you to Jeff Minter's Livejournal.

His screen name is Stinkygoat.

Epic score attack ftw!

I love Jeff Minter, hopefully this means he'll start writing his Edge column again.

Jeff Minter is like the Jackson Pollock of shooters. Give him some color, spray that shit around, add some scoring system and voila! Game made.

Even by stoner standards his games are weak.

Lol, I was reading this in the RSS feed and I'm thinking "Oh that Jim, he sure is a funny chap! He really does hate that Jeff Minter", but it was by Topher! God bless Dtoid and it's widespread hatred for Stinkygoat.

Oh, great. Jeff Minter is making another game? This one will sell like shit, too and get awful reviews. Then Minter will cry on the internet about it, insult the review, and then make a shirt about it. Then he'll cry on his blog about how a "shitty" game like Frogger greatly outsells his wonderful game.

Jeff Minter couldn't make a good game if his life depended on it.

Space Giraffe doesn't play anything like Tempest. If you try to play it like Tempest, your score will suck and you will hate the game.

Not only will it hurts my eyes like Geometry Wars 2 and the new Galaga, it will also suck like Space Giraffe.

I can already tell this game is going to be made of epic fail. Get ready to see Space Giraffe 2.0.

Hopefully this will be like Gridrunner++ only even better. Give that game a shot, unless you hate fun like Topher obviously does.

If no one likes Jeff's art style so be it. I don't like Gears of War's brown and grey all day.

I think I'll have a say over in the forums/c-blogs if anyone cares.

I support Indie games all day, every day. And, the consumer/non-gamer mainstream be damned. Jeff has been programming both existing IP's and stuff never been done before for 2 decades. Cut him some slack, or I say, do better. Yeah. Get in there and program and make some new content so that one can appreciate the process for all it is worth.

If you'll all kindly refer to the article directly below this one, you will see that I am a fan of both color and fun. Unfortunately, I find only one of those two things in Mr. Minter's games.

If you'll further refer to anything I've ever written in my 19 months or so on this site, you'll find that I happen to love indie games.

Cut him some slack? No. Two decades is long enough to figure out how to make a fun game. As for doing it myself? No. That's not my job. It's his. And he sucks at it.

We'll agree to disagree, as players will do sometimes.

I'm still writing the cblog, but the research will take some effort here. To each their own, and I need not defend him, but I think cutting slack/forgiveness would be a welcome thing to see from many of his most harsh critics of the past/present.

I won't even bother with the demo for this one. The Space Giraffe demo was enough to kill any interest I had in the game. I couldn't see the enemies. I couldn't see the bullets. I couldn't see why people bought it. But I could see why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Space Giraffe made my eyes hurt like Virtual Boy did. Though I'm sure Virtual Boy had some redeeming qualities. I hope the next Frogger game comes out at the same time as this pile of shit. I want Minter to realize that Frogger (a game over 20 years old) is better than anything he's managed to put out since then.

I will join this space giraffe hate bandwagon. That game was shameful. Seriously, everyone who worked on that game must either hate themselves or gamers in general.
