Jay-Z, Eminem, join DJ Hero, special version announced photo

Rap stars Jay-Z and Eminem will contribute their popular songs to DJ Hero and will also contribute on a special branded version of the game. Their version will include an "advanced version" of the game's turntable controller, which also has a metal traveling case that converts to a DJ-ready stand. If that wasn't enough, this version also includes two music CD compilations featuring works from both artists.

“A DJ has the ability to use music to control people's emotions and is responsible for the entire vibe of a room, a club or a party,” said Jay-Z. “DJ Hero is the first video game that allows everyone to enjoy the unique experience of creating that environment.”

“I came up doing freestyle battles on local stages with other MCs and DJs,” said Eminem. “DJ’ing is an essential part of hip-hop and DJ Hero will give people all over the chance to experience the music from the other side of the turntables.”

Both artists will both provide music for exclusive downloadable content later this year for DJ Hero.

Wow, what a big development. These artists will serve as huge endorsers for DJ Hero. I'd hate to be the DJ game going up against DJ Hero!

Depending on the songs, they could either be some of the greatest hits in the genre (Em and Jay's first few albums were solid), or could be absolute shit (Kingdom Come/Relapse/Encore).

In before all the "Jay-Z/Rap sucks" nonsense. They both used to be good.

Well, I failed, and didn't get in before the tidal wave of "rap sux white music/white power 4 lyfe".

Just remember it used to be a respected genre, and there are still quality artists out there beyond the thicket of pop-rap.

Can't we wait for the God damn game to come out before announcing special branded editions?

After seeing the trailer for teh game last night, I really hope there are some less-over the top, more hip hop oriented venues. Big flashy club/Rave like atmospheres don't really do it for me.

And while it's nice to see both Eminem/Jay-Z, here's hoping for more hip hop based DJs to join the mix (lol). DJ Qbert anyone?

And while I hate double posting, I do agree with Magnalon. Any Rhymesayers/Def Jux in either of the upcoming DJ games will really raise my eyebrows.

Magnalon: Solid? Eminem's albums were all amazing until the one before Relapse, and Relapse is also a great album.

Jay Z on the other hand, I haven't listened to him since The Blueprint 1 and 2.

Then again, all of this is a matter of opinion.

Where the money at? In Activision's hands, handing it out to rappers and musicians to win you over with their marketing.

In all seriousness, this is big for DJ Hero's name.

1st for all the haters, this is not hiphop/rap its mtv sugarcoated pop-hop, these two are popstars not mc's/rappers, I hate how all these comercial mainstream clowns like the two above and people like 50cent, kanye west, lil wayne lil this lil that is killing REAL HIP HOP. My point is, dj hero will suck cause it will have nothing with "turntabling" to do, it will just be a comercial mainstream nonsense promotion. If they worked with real hip hop dj's/producers like Dj Premier, Dj Babu, Dj Revolution etc etc, then it might have been something cool, but we live in the real world where pozers sell more than quality, I'm not surprised.

@Detox
Q-bert and Dan the automator thats a good example of people I want to see working on this game

@Monco Vega
Fuck dance/house, both genres are lame, I would much rather see some Jungle/Drum n Bass stuff, but I doubt it and dance/house is more likely to be in this game cause as I said above, pozers oversell quality

Xecutioners.
Also, morbid is fucking crazy if he thinks Eminem isn't "an mc/rapper." Not Kanye either? I think I understand what you mean, but just because they're not fucking Masta Ace doesn't mean they don't belong.
