@Stealth No it doesn't, but it may inject a bunch of money through investments or people buying stock if they believe this guy can help turn around the company.

This is pretty f'ing huge. Not just because Jason Rubin made some great games, he (and Andy Gavin) set the path to make Naughty Dog the great studio they are today. He has a unique perspective on how to make development work, less bureaucracy and more trust in employers to keep the iteration process fast and efficient. If that is implemented in THQ, they could see a huge jump in quality in a few years.

Also, consider for a second what Rubin's background is, and the position he is in now. Developers and publishers often fight over disagreements, and then compromises has to be made. These publishers doesn't come from a game dev background, they're businessmen with an outsider-look into game development.

And now Rubin is in charge of a big publisher like THQ. Imagine the possibilities. A developer in charge. This could be HUGE for THQ, and in the future, they might become the EA and Activision we all want, with a focus on quality over quantity. Expecting huge things here, hopefully he'll be given the time to get his hands dirty, and not be held back.

I really hope that this can bring THQ back to its former glory. While that may be a little ridiculous to hope, people losing their jobs and everyone losing some great games is never a good thing.

If Phil Harrison was unable to turn around Atari, I have little faith that Jason Rubin will be able to turn around THQ. Hate to be a pessimist, but big names usually can't turn companies around by themselves.

Unless you're Steve Jobs. In which case, you built your career around trimming fat (see: employees), ending all philanthropy and charity, and forming your company around a brand, not quality products with a great value proposition. Basically, unless you're the Mitt Romney of the games industry, you're not gonna have much luck.

Hope THQ still has some kicks left in them. I like some of their IPs, especially their Warhammer 40.000 (from Games Workshop) games and Dark Siders... I guess some want them to stay for Saints Row, too.

Hopefully this means THQ will stop making massively hyped but decidedly average games.
