Japanese Web site asks if you're still Wii Fit

Japanese Web site asks if you're still Wii Fit photo

How many of you are guilty of starting an exercise program, only to throw it by the wayside after a couple of weeks? As statistics show, you are hardly alone in that regard. Here's another one for you: Who among you rushed to the store to pick up Wii Fit as soon as it was available, just to have it collect dust after the novelty of it wore off? Don't feel too bad, as you are in good company, according to Japanese website IT Media.

After polling thousands of readers as to whether or not they have been faithfully playing Wii Fit on a daily basis, a whopping 64% responded that they pretty much gave up on the "game" soon after getting it. In fact, only about 22% even claimed to record their progress every day. Somewhere in the middle, the semi-slackers could be found, accounting for the remaining 14% (using Wii Fit once a week, or every few days.

So now that we've got that out of the way, one question remains: How many of you were eager to join the Nintendo gym, only to drop out after you realized that it too closely resembled the real thing?

$90+, tons of looking around for it, played it 3 times.

This was 3 weeks ago. It's been sitting there ever since.

I never jumped at the chance to get one, but I can see how it might interest the Wii crowd.

I can also see how (like regular exercise) people could easily stop using it after a while. Looks like it could really give you a decent workout.

I'll likely pick one up once there's a decent light gun-esque game released that utilizes the board a la Time Crisis. 'Til then... meh.

I get the sinking feeling that this is just some web poll. Not that the numbers are necessarily out of line, it just seems like a bad precedent to report them as "hard news"? :)

I'm sure overhyped games of all flavors get a lot of people buying them and setting them aside. My copy of SSBB...played once.

Also, these types of games get unfairly singled out. You pick up a typical action game and play it every day for a month or two then quit, it's a success! You pick up Brain Age and play almost every day for a couple months than move on....you're a quitter!

It's hard to validate the accuracy of a poll like this, especially if it's on the internet. But I think there are a lot of people that do this with wii games anyway. Just by their nature, and by the nature of the people buying it. They aren't people who play games on a daily basis, so they are more susceptible to this type of thing.

still can't get it anywhere- I would be more interested to see how many people really want to use it but can't get it

I NEVER would have seen this coming.

Not in a MILLION YEARS would I have thought this was just a fad that people were buying just because it was there.

As a society, if we can't enjoy gimmicky "games" that are overly expensive, mind-numbingly repetetive, and require full body exertion, what CAN we enjoy?

I've been using Wii Fit regularly since I bought it. But I also take a break from it for a day or two.

The type of people who stop using Wii Fit seem like the same type who stop going to the gym. Wii Fit was never intending to be a "game" in the first place. It's a collection of exercises. Running on a treadmill or lifting weights is just as repetitive as Wii Fit.

The real question is do the people who bought Wii Fit actually want to work out this way? Would they prefer a gym setting or another home fitness setup? Or, do they want to lose weight but can't make the commitment for daily training? Do they want to work out at all?

Like Mystic Violet said, this sounds about the same as pretty much like the results of the average person engaging in any exercise regime. Most people keep up with it a week or two and quit.

*Kannon: "how many people get a normal game, play it for a day, then never return to it again.

That's what we generally call a bad game.
