As noted, everyone and their cat saw this one coming, but I bet Nintendo breathed a sign of relief. I wonder if Japanese people were also able to buy at the reduced price while grabbing the free games? If so, then I'm actually a lot more interested in next weeks sales numbers, and what the average over the next few weeks ends up being.
In a way, if people did get free games with the price cut, then this weeks sales might be something of a false positive. Only time will tell.

Well they obviously weren't buying it at $250, which is the equivalent to $300 in Japanese Yen. So yeah it is kind of news, that the 3DS went from selling 20,000 to 25,000 a week to almost 200,000 more than that, in just one week, because of a price drop. Now in other news: Lets see if the PSVita can sell at that price and higher for the 3G version in Japan, later this year. That will be the real news story to look out for!

obivously they have no intrest in hand helds since they will only buy at low prices, 3DS usa only ;P
Great news. This makes me happy for Nintendo and the 3DS but leaves me a bit concerned about the PSV though.
One point, how many of those sales was people who waited for the price drop and would get one anyway? Will this be just a small spike in the sales or will it be a new constant?
I'm thinking this will be a temporary spike. There's still a general lack of games for the 3DS and this is especially the case if this sales increase was due to getting all those free NES and GBA games.

I bought one because of the gamestop trade in program. I couldn't afford a game though :( It's real nice hardware though.

I really like mine and would like to see it be supported in the long run, so this is really good news.
The 3ds has been the number 1(or2) console in Japan since launch. This is nothing new other then more units being sold in a short time.

The price of the Vita is just right imo...but with the price of the PS3 dropping to $250, I don't think the PSV will sell unless the price drops as well. Still intend to buy one on 1st day, but if price doesn't change, I think I'll be in the minority...and I'm okay with that!
