Japan's top five PS3 bestsellers of all time photo

Famitsu magazine has unveiled the PlayStation 3's best selling games of all time, and it looks incredibly varied ... if you consider two out of five games being Dynasty Warriors varied.

Koei's DW series has always been a hot commodity in Japan, but the list does look rather dismal, to say the least. Here's the top five, including lifetime sales as of November 16:

1. Metal Gear Solid 4 - 671,706
2. Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds - 408,175
3. Dynasty Warriors 6 - 371,443
4. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam - 317,580
5. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - 316,533

That's ... quite a list. I'd congratulate Metal Gear Solid 4 for topping the list, but looking at the competition, it'd be like congratulating Stephen Hawking for beating a retard at Scrabble.

Well umm grats to MGS on beating hot shots bby 200k. I can't see why they would not want to bring it to 360 that would be a bonehead move geez

I will never understand Japan's rabid obsession with the Dynasty Warriors series.

Not even one game broke the million mark. Take that for whatever you will...

oh japan you crazy nuts. Theres plenty of games out there for the ps3 i guess the will like Japanese what the Japanese will like. I'm not sure how valkyria chronicles isn't on that list they should be going ape shit over an actually RPG to play (a good one at that) the way americans do for every goddamn thing that invovles zombies.

I'd like to point out (because it only says it in the title and not the article) that this list is JAPAN ONLY!

MGS4 has supposedly sold over 3.5 million worldwide as of like two months ago. It's set to pass MGS3's sales (~4 milion) shortly, so that's no really bad at all.

The list is still sad, though. PS3 just needs more RPGs for Japan to jump on the Sony wagon. What happened between the PS2 generation (the most RPGs available on one system ever) and this generation?

Step it up, Sony!

Lack of Final Fantasy. That's the only explanation.

I hate the Japanese market sometimes.

@covah

I KNOW!
I picked up HSG last month as my GF and I wanted to play some golf as Wii golf is utter shit and when I saw that price still at $59.99 I threw up all a little in my mouth.

Fun game though.

@elsteveo, you know this is a Japan list right? Taking one game that sells on a poor selling system and putting it on another poor selling system isn't going to do much in Japan. Outside of Japan, your comment applies.

No i thought this was a list for Hungry. Figure you sell another 500k then that is 1 million copies sold in japan!

Stop thinking that Japan is the united states
The have different tastes, it's pretty stupid to say this list is sad , let's see :
MGS3 sold the same amount in the same time on PS2 wich had a bigger install base .
The other games on the list aren't surpises, all those belong to sagas that the Japanese people love.
Remember that GTA 4 and lots of best selling games in US were released there.( wich didn't sell well there, and in the logic of this article ... are retarded games then )
So the only thing i see here is Americans making fun of Japanese taste in viedogames.

So yes, console market dead in Japan confirmed. Suck it up and get used to everything being on DS. They're the only people that can make games for the system anyways.

Yay for Hot Shots! I've been behind that game for so long and all my friends call me retarded! Now who's retarded!?

Side note... Valkyria Chronicles should totally be on that list. Why do people refuse to buy it!? :(

Wow, I'm surprised Ryu ga Gotoku: Kenzan isn't on that list, considering the lack of competition. Indeed, that's the Yakuza game (in between 2 and the soon to be released 3, which looks incredibly btw) which features child prostitution. The fighting system still needs improvement, but I found the game to be very well make and produced and even featured Takenaka Naoto, who you might know from Shall We Dance and Waterboys among others, not only as a voice actor but as an actual character (playing a samurai of course). With all the hype and talent they get for that series, you'd think it would be able to beat out at least one of those Musou games. Oh well, guess they are all too busy playin Wii's.
