Japan's Super Smash Bros. Brawl shortage more like a delay

Japan's Super Smash Bros. Brawl shortage more like a delay photo
     Super Smash Bros.

We recently told you about potential Super Smash Bros. Brawl shortages for the game's Japanese launch, but now an update from importer National Console Support makes the situation look more like a short delay.

They are to receive the initial shipments of SSBB this Thursday, and while they were able to obtain more copies than they originally expected, it looks like some preorder customers will have to wait another week. The importer's update from yesterday said that "Nintendo will only ship 25% of the game this week due to a production shortage," though more will be available next week. Phew!

From NCS:

The remainder of our Smash Bros X shipments are scheduled to arrive no later than Wednesday or Thursday of next week and we'll be able to fill all remaining preorders and any new orders at that time.

Sure, a delay seems less serious than a "shortage," but this is Super Smash Bros. Brawl we're talking about here. Recent leaks have fans twitching in fits, and those that reserved an import copy to play the game at the earliest available date are probably wimpering in a huddled ball if they got the dreaded "next week" call today.

I'm fine waiting as long as Nintendo has their production kinks worked out for the US release.

[By the way, this news comes via our sister site Japanator, who also has posts on brilliantly named gay airlines and excessive cleaveage today.]

There better not be a shortage here in the States. I'm gonna hafta go grab a pre-order from Best Buy when I'm there next.

Stateside shortage disaster imminent!!! It looks like they'll need to hire a second guy at the factory that pokes the machines with a broom.

what I don't understand is how the hell there's a shortage to begin with.

This is easily the most anticipated game on the Wii and we're talking about shortages? Good way to prepare Nintendo.

Now, see, if you are all good boys and girls and you visit Japanator to read the whole thing I wrote, you can enjoy my deeply thought-out and researched theory as to why there is a shortage! :D

Nintendo doesn't need this game to sell more of the wii; they have their own console "shortage" to thank for that, but it will be indeed a double shortage soon methinks. Geniuses? or maybe just dumbasses?

I really could care less for the shortage. I just wish this type of crap wouldn't have to happen to begin with.

plus half the new characters don't intrest me. MAYBE Wolf is he's really in. Otherwise ZSS, Samus, and Wario just about cleans my act.

At least you fuckers have a release date. PAL gamers still don't know when we're getting it. We'll probably get it just in time for the Christmas rush.

When was the last time ANY game has had a shortage of supply? I honestly want to know. Is this some stupid publicity stunt?

It happens man. And it's almost always Nintendo. Off the top of my head: Animal Crossing DS, Mario Party DS, Twilight Princess just in recent memory.

This WILL happen here.

It doesn't really annoy me when a company runs into a shortage at launch due to demand. What does annoy me is when they brag about it before launch.
