Japan lines up for Xbox 360 game: Madness prevails photo
     Xbox 360

Take a good, long, lasting look at the above image folks, because it's not something you see every day, and it could be something you'll never see again. That is a bunch of Japanese people lining up for an Xbox 360 game -- just when you think you'd witnessed it all.

This is of course for Tales of Vesperia, with customers patiently waiting at the Akihabara Yodobashi Camera to get their hands on this exclusive new JRPG. Certainly not the biggest launch in the world, but for a 360 game, it's is as stellar as anybody could imagine.

This morning's launch was accompanied by on-stage antics that included producers Yoshito Higuchi and Tsutomu Gouda, the latter of which quipped: "Even though the Olympics are starting, everyone please enjoy playing Tales of Versperia." Pro wrestler Wataru Sakora was also present for the event.

Although hype for Vesperia isn't as mad as it would be had the game come out for the PS3 or Wii, a "steady stream" of 360 consoles are reportedly being sold. And all it took was a Japanese game in a Japanese genre made by Japanese people to do it.

I tried Tales of Vespera, but I just couldn't get into it. It reminded me of another 360 RPG I passed on Eternal Sonata. The anime aesthetic was too much for me. That and everyone looked feminine for some reason and the battle gameplay just didn't do it for me.

@randombullseye.

That's exactly why it'll sell tons in Japan though. They can't get enough of that stuff. That and the Pokemons of course.

So MS's RPG exclusives will surely boost their japanese sales. Sony, please take note..

Has it occurred to anyone that the Japanese just like to line up?

I tried the demo. I lost some interest, but I'll still give the full game a try.

The art style was like Eternal Sonata, but the battle systems were pretty different.

This isn't the first time the Japanese lined up for a game. They lined up for Lost Odyssey and they lined up for Eternal Sonata too. Not to mention the tons of people that lined up for Ace Combat 6.....still the only week that the 360 beat the PS3 in japan.

I think that Tale of Vesperia will sell more than those two, but like most 360 games it just doesn't have the legs (could be wrong though) I dont think. Not to mention rumors of Vesperia being sent to the Ps3 later on and an exclusive Tales game being rumored to be for the PS3 (same time as the Wii) I'm pretty sure if those rumors pan out the PS3 will be seeing much better days.

the Demo did nothing for me, but that's probably since i enjoyed most Tales game there's a chance this'll be just as enjoyable

Plus seeing how an improved ES is coming to the PS3 soon, I'm glad I held out on buying it

Presumably to bodyslam and drop kick those who did not like the game.

I could be wrong but I thought that the PS3 has quite a few RPGS out in japan, its just the every other territory that is lacking RPGS?

@Anus

360 fans are desperate in Japan. But I don't why they don't play real games like Gears of War or Call of Duty.

@ Dan CiTi:
Surprisingly though Soul Calibur 4 sold pretty well on the 360 in Japan last week. Not as well as the PS3 version mind you but pretty well none the less.

I AM LLOYD IRVING! RISING FALCON! SONIC THRUST! TAA-EMPTIST BEAST!

I still haven't completed the last one on the PS2. I'm sure there was a time when Tales games didn't come out every year. I just want to play symphonia 2. I think the phantasia universe is the most interesting out of all of 'em.
