The headline basically says it all. Enterbrain has released the Japanese lifetime sales numbers for the current generation of home consoles,
and here's how it all plays out as of February 28th:
Wii: 10,007,736
PS3: 4,766,408
Xbox 360: 1,235,049
The Wii took 170 weeks to break the 10 million mark, which was 39 weeks longer than the PS2 took back in the day. They're not "winning" by any means, but it's nice to see that the Xbox 360 passed the 1 million mark. Microsoft made a mark with their system, perhaps gaining a foothold for their next release.

Meanwhile I haven't seen much of anything Japan exclusve other than a few games. Take a look at Play Asia or any similar site and compare the two in Japan. 360 probably has more exclusives in Japan than it does here. I wish PS3 had more, because I could import them.
At the very least it'd be nice to see a PS3 version of Dream C Club, which as far as I know is 360 only. Or Zegapain.
Idle thought: I wonder how many of those were due to Tales Of Vesperia?

Yep, and you'll notice the Japanese are pretty much ignoring the PS3, too... in favor of the Wii.

Also, I second RenegadePanda's words. With all the push for 360 I'm taken back by how large the gap is. I didn't expect it to be beating out the PS3 but...damn.
5 million units sold does not sound like the PS3 being ignored to me... a 2:1 ratio between the wii and the PS3 is not bad at all, considering how much mass media and non-hardcore-gamer attention the wii has received.
Can't argue with that logic.
Either way, I enjoy playing all good games (and can actually afford to do so thanks to GameFly), which is why I own all three of the above-mentioned consoles, a decent PC, a PSP and an iPhone.
It appears the winner, gentlemen, is ME.

You're undeniably the biggest Sony fanboy I've come across on the Web -- and no, that's not a compliment.
I don't see anything wrong with healthy competition. Sure, the 360 isn't doing all that well in Japan but its push/presence and -- let's face it -- strength in other markets has forced Sony to give gamers better titles and lower prices. That MS has taken away a number of key exclusives from Sony and made others platform agnostic only helps all of us.
In the words of EGM, "The 'console war' is a marketing campaign, and it wants to enlist you as an unpaid employee. Don't be a sucker."
We all win when all three of these machines do well. We should not be rooting for any one over the other.
