Japan is wacky for Wii Fit

Japan is wacky for Wii Fit photo

According to Next Gen, Famitsu asked its readers what they thought the top 10 news stories of recent shows like E3 2007 and Tokyo's PlayStation Premiere were, and Nintendo's announcement of Wii Fit topped the list.

It looks like Japan is slightly more enthusiastic about the new Nintendo fitness peripheral than many of our readers and editors are. The Wii Fit software and board news even topped the impressive Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay demo, and that's not to mention the new Sony PlayStation Portable redesign or any other PS3 or Xbox 360 title announcement.

Other naturals like Sony's Home, Little Big Planet, and Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Brawl also made the list, but another strange Nintendo peripheral, the Wii Zapper, managed to beat many of those out.

Are we really on a totally different page than Famitsu's readers?

Hit the jump to see the full list.

PSP Model comes second?
WTF!

But yeah WiiFit is they're kinda thing, the western gaming audience is more geared towards games like gears of war, they want action now.

Japan prefer minimalism, simplicity, and interaction rather then blind shooting.

You've gotta love the PSP Slim coming second, since there is practically no difference in size between the two. Maybe weight and shit.

Does the shotgun perform the same functions as the Zapper will? If so i'll go with the shotgun.

Maybe...just maybe Japanese are looking to something different when it comes to gaming. I mean you can only shoot and blow stuff up so many times!

What the hell? I love Nintendo and all, but Galaxy and Brawl and such are what matters.

Have you guys been paying attention? The Japanese game scene has evolved into a human interface scene, since Japan is at least a year ahead of the western world in terms of embracing new technology, we are simply seing a trend which will eventually come to the west. No, this doesn't mean crap games, it simply means that developers with think of the market as being made up of human customers rather than fanboys.

Like it or not, the videogame industry is evolving into something not everyone is comfortable with.

Yeah man, anything that is competition with the DS is news worthy. Strangely enough Dee-ehss is the new Japanese word for God. Actually, that list looks alot like mine but add in Bee Suit Mario.

I love how Japan cares so little about the 360 and the PS3 has so few games that the two systems' biggest games are summed up as "Upcoming software for the [PS3/360]."
