Japan gets Phantasy Star Complete Collection

As one of the dying breed of Sega kids, it's my duty to sing the praises of anything Phantasy Star related. Siliconera brings us news of a new PS release that may make if you happy if your Japanese language ability is leveled up.

The Sega Ages 2500: Phantasy Star Complete Collection hits Japan on March 27th. The PlayStation 2 title includes all four classic Genesis/Master System RPGs as well as eight Phantasy Star II text adventures Sega released online in the 1990s.

This being a Japanese release, your only alternatives are the Sega Genesis Collection (PS2), which contains Phantasy Star II through IV, or the Phantasy Star Collection (GBA), which gives you the first three games. Sure, you could import the Sega Ages 2500: Phantasy Star Complete Collection, but that won't change those PSII text adventures to English.

Do you think we'll see this in the US? Where the hell are the remakes at? Were you a Phantasy Star kid? Do you still have hand-drawn graph maps of the dungeons like I do?

Check out another retro commercial after the jump.

Yet another collection/remake that will probably never see the light of day in the U.S.

A couple of fellow Phantasy Star addicts have already translated two of them:

They need to stop wasting their time and money on Universe, and go back to making the actual RPGs. In terms of sheer creativity; the Phantasy Star franchise had concepts and stories that kicked the collective asses of the early Final Fantasys.

I know everyone rags on III, but I loved that one. With some retooling and toning down the encounter rate, it'd be a really awesome remake.

I never knew that they had a non mmorpg style of Phantasy Star...seriously. retro style looks not to shabby.

1st one I played was on the DC and my buddy stole his net connection for that one, it was a pretty cool game at the time.

...if they included a revamped PSO with that.... <3

and if everyone just forgot about PSU..that'd be awesome.

Playing PS since 86! First vrpg I played. Wish they would release the remakes in the US already!

They should bundle the PS1 & 2 remakes along with this collection and release it outside Japan. That'd make me a happy camper, but it's never gonna happen. Sadly, the remakes aren't as good as they should be, but I'd still love to see them in English.

If this Collection is anything like the other Sega Ages Collections, the "Overseas" English versions of the SMS & Genesis games will be included in it. That doesn't help the Text Adventures, but at least that fan group is translating those.

Oh! What SourGr8pes said! Where's my Phantasy Star V Sega? WTF with the MMO shit? Sega likes to take franchises I loved as a kid and ruin them. They did it with Sonic, they did it with Shining Force and they did it with Phantasy Star.

I'm starting to think Sega doesn't want to make good games anymore.

Someone seriously needs to make a translation for this, because we know it's not coming here.

Oh, and even though we all know that PSIII wasn't exactly the best game in the series, I still managed to get 3 of the 4 endings when I was in 5th grade.

I have no clue why sega doesn't release any of their Ages series over here when there are so much retro collections around on this side of the pond.

I never had played any phantasy star games until about 3 weeks ago. I started playing Phanasy Star IV. It is really one of the best rpg's I've ever played. It has so many different features that were way ahead of their time. Macros! They're awesome. Dual-Techs! I always thought that Chrono Trigger was the first game to do this. Apparently not! The cut scenes are amazing. The use of the pictues that continually pop up over the old ones is a wonderful way to display the emotions of the story better than any Final Fantasy game ever did. (And I mean Ever. Better than FF IV, VI, VIII, IX, X or XII). All together awesome!Great Story. Great combat system. Skills and Techs = greatness. I highyl reccommend this to anyone who enjoys older rpgs. You'll love it!

Would be so nice to get anything Phantasy Star(besides PSO and PSU).

Heres a cool idea. I Phantasy Star collection for PSP, PS2 and Wii. Translate those PS2 Sega Ages remakes and include the original games.

Dammit why does such a great game such as Phantasy Star have to be so underrated??
Dont get me started on the Genesis days of Sega and their underrated titles.
