Japan gets a release date for Muramasa: The Demon Blade photo

You may remember my sorrow over hearing Muramasa: The Demon Blade had been pushed back to 2009, but the good news is if you can read Japanese (or don't mind navigating blindly), you can get your hands on the game much sooner, because the JP release date has just been confirmed for April 9th. Not long at all!

On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about a US release date soon, so if you can be patient, you may have this beautiful title in your hands sooner than you think. Considering this is one of my top 5 most anticipated titles of the year, I'm hoping we don't have to wait too much longer.

It's quite a dire situation when you're looking forward to a Wii third-party release list than a Wii first-party release list for a year.

This game looks like great games of old! I am very jealous of Wii owners, but I won't be grabbing a Wii for just this game alone. If they keep making games like this, I might get one though. 2d will never die!!!!

That's because the first party release list is Wii Sports 2 and a bunch of Gamecube remakes that you can buy used for $5 at Gamestop.

Well, there's a lot of potentially good third-party titles to look forward to this year.

Nintendo recently revealed several of its first and second-party games it has planned to release this year. However, The only surprising new game to see is one that we have seen again before on Nintendo's previous game lineup's before - Kirby.

Hopefully, we'll also get to see releases of Fatal Frame 4 and Disaster: Day of Crisis.

In addition, Nintendo's Iwata recently released a statement about how it plans to show off big software at this year's E3 in June.

I'd hope to hear more about what new projects Retro Studios and Monster Games are working on and maybe, just maybe a teaser trailer for Pikmin 3 of possibly even Zelda (though I don't expect Zelda will come out this year).

So far, the top games I'm looking forward are the following:

- Sin & Punishment 2
- Deadly Creatures
- Punch-Out
- House of the Dead: Overkill
- The Conduit
- Tenchu: Shadow Assassins
- MadWorld
- Wii Sports Resort
- Muramasa: The Demon Blade
- Cursed Mountain
- Monster Hunter Tri (if it comes out this year)
- Kizuna (the fate of this game is currently unknown but it does have a 2009 TBA release)
- Final Fantasy: Crystal Bearers
- Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (hey it can still happen)
- Fatal Frame 4 (still a possibility)
- Disaster: Day of Crisis (dtill a possibility)

Is Muramasa just a pure action game, or is it kind of an action-rpg?

Muramasa basically seems to be a straight-forward hack and slash action game but has been called an action RPG.
The gameplay is very simple (one button is used for melee attacks but the distance between you and enemies and the position of the analog stick determines what different attack is used) but combat is fast-paced with short and straight-forward level design. It seems like you cannot progress through the next level until you have killed all of the enemies in the current level. There are some minor RPG elements but they have not been revealed yet. But it was said that you will be able to interact with NPC villagers, do quest missions and other things that were not revealed.

We do know that the game supports the Wii remote and nunchuck and the Classic Controller. In addition, you'll be able to play as one of two characters with the level design being reversed for one of them. In addition, players can select between two different characters that might have different attack styles (not completely sure). There's two weapons to choose from (a small but quick sword and a slow but strong sword). The durability of the swords will gradually wear down and eventually break so you'll have to switch between using both swords.

yep this does look class. Game releases are strange at the moment though, im from England, and what is safe for us to look forward to, isn't the case with you lot in the US. I still can't believe you didn't get Disaster, i've got it, and i'd say it would be more suited to an american market. Same with Fatal Frame, it's like NOE are more willing to give games a chance, while NOA sticks to the casual market. Strange.

But yeh, muramasa is looking class :]

looks gorgeous. I'm purposely not watching gameplay footage just so that I can get that rush of seeing such beautiful visuals in motion for the first time.
