Chapter 14's "Thunder Cloud Temple" music (the ground stage part) is up there as one of my favourite tracks of all time, and it's not even on the sound selection CD.

Just import it, shipping shouldn't be too bad on something that small. And music CDs aren't region based to my knowledge, as I've imported a few.

It's not so much Nintendo so much as it is the reality that video game music caters to such a niche market in North America.
There's no denying the incredibly awesome talent that video game composers bring to the table (ditto with fans and their remixes!) but unless it's in concert or on the radio it's not going to sell a lot of copies in North America.
It's not just Nintendo, either. For all their games made, how many of Capcom's games got a soundtrack release outside of Japan? How about the awesome music from Sonic Generations? No official US release.

Shipping costs aren't the problem. The problem is some stores won't process your order if you give them an address outside of Japan. That means you usually have to use an import/export store which tacks on extra fees.

Yeah, what Maniac said. I've been using proxies to get stuff from Japan when it's been impossible to obtain via eBay, and I'm always surprised by how many fees get tacked on. I often wind up paying between two to three times the cost of the item itself. I've tried looking for less expensive proxies, but the story is the same.

.....Or you could do what I do and download the music for free online. Yeah it's piracy, but quite frankly if Nintendo isn't going to offer us this outside of Japan, then I don't see any other option.

shipping is about $20 for 3 CD sets so not really absurdly expensive.
These soundtracks themselves are a bit pricey though ( 5CD = brand new game)

yeah.. probably because people here do not buy game soundtracks that much. Still remember Skyrim's soundtrack is like, 4CD for $30? And people were complaining them to be too expensive.

Although it's disappointing we won't be getting it it's not a surprise, Video game music is just more popular there than it is here. I'm more upset about us not getting that Legend of Zelda book considering the games do better here than there.

But what I want to know is why they can't sell the music online? I mean, yeah, this is Nintendo we're talking about here, but at the very least they can offer the chance to download the music digitally. Ultimately, it would save money and everyone is happy with what they get.
And I have to wonder about the cost of video game music soundtracks in the first place. Like with what axefiend said, not many people are willing to pay $30 for the music of Skyrim, excluding TES and/or Jeremy Soule fans. Though I understand they still have to make a profit, I feel like the price for the soundtrack should be cheaper.

I just don't understand not having music sold digitally these days. I love collecting games, but I don't care about CDs. I just end up ripping it to my computer and sticking the CD in my closet or something... so digital saves me the hassle.
