Japan freaks over Monster Hunter Tri, Wii sales triple photo

I'm a new convert to the whole Monster Hunter thing, but I can already say that I'm addicted. I've been playing Freedom Unite on the PSP, and it's like digital crack. I think I now get where the Japanese following for this series comes from now. We haven't had the pleasure of trying out the newest game of the series, Monster Hunter Tri, but it seems that half a million people in Japan already have...and it just came out!

Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii sold 520,000 copies in two days in Japan, making it the best seller of any game format overall. And because it's a Wii title, Wii sales jumped up almost 300 percent. In one week, Japanese gamers snapped up almost 100,000 Wii consoles!

I'm glad that Capcom USA is taking care of us. Normally I'd bitch about how Japan has all the fun, but Capcom just announced that Monster Hunter Tri is coming to the US and Europe early next year. Thanks so much, Capcom!

God damn they love their Monster Hunter...

I really wish it was awesome there as it was here, because then I may be playing it more. As of now however, out of two dozen tries, I still can't beat a level 1 mission.

I've been playing MHFU almost nonstop for the last 2 weeks, I even took it to the gym and played while on a stationary bike :(

Can't wait to see Tri localized, I got to try the demo out and was enjoying the ability to punch sharks.

I've played MH on PS2 and PSP, they're ok but I've never understood the wide appeal....to each his own though

Man, I just upgraded myself to Unite last weekend also(traded in MHF2 for it). I am so pumped for Tri.

The only problem I have with Tri though is that it's gonna lack my 3 favorite weapon types from MHF2/MHFU: Bows, Gunlances, and Dual Swords.

Muramasa
No More Heroes
No More Heros 2
Monster Hunter Tri
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Madworld
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3

Looks like more than 2 games to me. I usta hate on the Wii too, and then I realized how retarded it was to say that it had no games.

I just can't get into Monster Hunter for some reason...despite the fact that it's PERFECT for me since i LOVE PSO.

There's just something missing for me...I suspect its the stilted controls. Being locked into a combo animation and unable to adapt to rapidly moving enemies SUCK! A little auto-tracking wouldn't hurt...

so... 8 games... >_> and out of that list I only like 2, but out of respect for your list, 8. Idk it kinda feels how the PS3 was at the beginning when they only had about 10 ok games back in early 08.

and MH Tri wont come out until next year here in the states... O well I still have my wii somewhere, but until Muramasa comes out, no reason to dust it off yet.

I would get into it, but I think the difficulty is what turns me off a bit. But I know if I really get into it, I'll be addicted. I've played enough of it on the PSP for it to be awesome.

@Los255

It's not so much difficult as it is intimidating. It's very comprehensive, so there's a whole lot to learn, but it's not "hard" in the same sense that Contra, Ninja Gaiden or a Shmup are hard. MH rewards you for being prepared and ready, while the latter reward you for persistence and skill.

That's really awesome that they're going so nuts over there about it. I am really excited for this and have been following it since it was just whispers and no-one ever thought it would hit Western shores. I just really hope it isn't P2P.

@Crunshii
I could easily list off 30 that are out plus another dozen due out in the next year. Get off your high horse. Maybe you should let your keyboard gather some dust so I don't have to hear your pessimistic deprecatory blather.

Seriously...the guy without an avatar is more sensible than you.

waggle?

I thought this was one of the few games (like Brawl) that went ahead and focused on making a good game that didnt rely on the motion controls.

I've been addicted to Monster Hunter games since I got the first one on the PS2. I have so far purchased every available iteration of the series in the west and I still love it. It's been a hard lonely experience for the most part but when I do find friends...oh the fun we have.

@ St1nkyP33t - Indeed, the game does not require much in the way of motion control, and can be bought bundled with the totally slick classic controller pro.
