Jam Sessions 2 is set to hit North America this Fall for the DS. Jam Sessions 2 is a guitar game where you play the guitar and write songs via the touch screen. You’ll be able to create songs, share them with your friends and there will be DSi specific features as well.
Every time I think of Jam Sessions, I always think of the rejected Mega64 ad for the game, which you can check out after the break. I wonder if Jam Sessions 2 will have the same kind of effect on people.
UBISOFT® ANNOUNCES JAM SESSIONS 2
SAN FRANCISCO – August 27, 2009 – Ubisoft revealed today that it is releasing a follow-up to its critically acclaimed Jam Sessions video game with Jam Sessions 2 for the Nintendo DS(TM) and Nintendo DSi(TM) systems. Scheduled for release in Fall 2009 in North America, Jam Sessions 2 is a guitar game developed by Plato that makes improving your guitar skills fun and rewarding.
Each song in the gameplay mode serves a different role in advancing players' guitar skills and songwriting abilities. By progressing through the songbook, players learn techniques that will help them play the guitar and write songs. Armed with their new skills, players can play, create and share their own original music with others.
"Ubisoft is pleased to present players of all ages with a music game that builds on the unique foundation of the first title,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. "In Jam Sessions 2, players can freestyle sections of featured songs and make them their own. With a push of a button, players' created works can be included in the game play and instantly converted into a playable level.”

He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

I'm become the monster I hate and say "Just buy a real guitar."
Sorry but unlike RB or GH I get the feeling that this game is trying to do something games shouldn't try to do. I think the people who play Jam Sessions are the people who should buy a cheap guitar and mini-amp. I knew a few people who briefly owned the first one before trading it or losing it and they were the people who had great ideas and stuff but never just bought a guitar. Instead they came over and made me whore mine out. :/
I don't agree with the "buy a real guitar" statement. The potential of this game isn't to replace guitar. The potential of this game is to be able to write or play music anywhere. When I can put a guitar in my pocket, or take it to work, then that would be pretty awesome.
This really doesn't provide any real ability to write or play music, other than those cheesy acoustic songs that are just a few open chords that don't resolve at all. You can't play single notes, you can't apply vibrato, palm mute, play half of the chord, etc. etc. etc. you only do chords, complete open chords. It's not really a tool for writing music, as it is a tool for simulating writing music. It is the guitar hero of composition.
Well yeah, it doesn't let you get intricate with the songs, but most songs out there can be broken down into chords. It's definitely not for writing crazy technical stuff, but you can compose entire songs out of chords. Lots of bands do it, actually, and add the details in later. It does let you palm mute though (it just doesn't sound great). I have the first Jam Sessions on DS so I know somewhat what I'm talking about.
@-PL- you took the words out of my mouth- it isn't a guitar replacement by any means but is a lot of fun and portable. I do electronic music nowadays but I have played guitar for a good 25 years or so.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Win. Complete and utter win.
cumming soon to a whore near you.
BTW I've played guitar for 13 years.
