Jaggy-free Soulcalibur XBLA footage released

8:11 PM on 05.28.2008, Jordan Grim Devore 27 comments

     Fighting Games

At first glance, this video for the Xbox LIVE port of Soulcalibur might not look like much of a visual improvement over the Dreamcast version of the game from which it's based upon.

However, once you go back and play a quick match of Soulcalibur or take a look at the comparison image located in the gallery below, you should start to see a difference. Seriously, look at the size of those jaggies!

For a game that's nearly 10 years old, Soulcalibur has held up quite well. Even though the upcoming XBLA port might not have killer online multiplayer like we would've loved to see, I'm still eagerly anticipating it like I'm sure many of you are.

If I were to buy this game on the arcade it would be the first time I have ever purchased a game that I already own.

hmmmmm.

Damn those Microsoft folks are some tricky bastards!

I cant resist!I will buy it, then de-list it when SC4 comes out.

That screenshot with the jaggies looks more like the arcade version, which looked worst than the DC version, but I may be wrong.

Can't wait for this, only cause I hate having to find my DC, VGA cable, controllers, VMUs, etc. every time I wanna play a good Soul Calibur.

Maxi got the shit nut tapped out of him by Kilik, exactly why Kilik will always be my favorite, lol.

It's strange not seeing the the massive mammaries we've come to expect from soul calibur. I'm glad this is being released, now I don't have to find a copy for the dreamcast that I don't have!

Every copy of SC I've ever bought (which is about three or four) hasn't worked on my DreamCast. Same with Sonic Adventure, its the weirdest thing. I can't wait to finally own this game!

This doesn't have silly star war characters and broken "force grabs" which is why SC wins.

though I have for DC so no need for this.

I notice some of the sound effects aren't quite the same. Wonder why.

Although I have had the original for the Dreamcast since it came out (9-9-99 baby!), I think I will make a purchase if only for the smoother graphics. And the fact that I won't have to turn off my Xbox 360 to play it. :P

And the fact that my wife will kill me if I don't :(

Someone who ACTUALLY knows how to say the title, without spaces?!

Kudos. Game looks great, btw.

Maybe my eyes are deceiving me but I remember Soul Calibur 1 looking a lot better. It looks too clean in HD. What happened to the textures?

No 16:9 support and no online = no reason to buy this.

Never having the owned a DC i didn't get to play this, but like SantanaClause89, i have to agree that without online or 16:9 what's the point of buying this over playing Sc2/3 or waiting for Soulcalibur 4?

Well..in terms of Xbox Live games ..if you've never played this you can't go wrong. Man I own this..but it would be nice to play it with some extra smoothness.

To be honest it's my favourite in the series but lack of onloine multiplayer means I'll stick to my DC version.

Nostalgia is a tricky thing. your mind remembers it better than it actually was but now with everything that's game since. The game looks dated and some blame XBL, but in reality the game hasn't aged so well.

If this is just an arcade version, meh. Full game, it's about god damn time they brought this gem back. Soul Calibur was a magical experience.
